Line closed. In August 2009 the Portuguese Secretary of State for Transport announced that Pocinho to Barca de Alva was to be reopened for tourist traffic, especially to the Coa Valley Archaeological Park, a World Heritage Site. RENFE announced plans some years ago to reopen their section for cross border freight. However, both of these projects are victims of the present financial crisis.

[D] CP works to Badajoz. The daily passenger service was withdrawn on 5 June 2004, and reinstated on 13 December 2009. The entire Torre das Vargens - Elvas - Badajoz RENFE line closed to pasengers on 1 January 2012.

In January 2016 a bill to reinstate trains to Badajoz was accepted unanimously by the Portuguese parliament and a service reintroduced on 29 August 2017.
 
A new line for freight between Évora and Elvas, for traffic from the port of Sines, is planned for completion in 2022.
