This list is based on the on-line journey planner from 9 December 2018, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations used are explained in the General Information document.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA" refer to the European Railway Atlas Romania, Bulgaria & Moldova, Regional Series 2016, by M.G.Ball.

Obscure services

Mezdra Avoiding Line: Mezdra-Jug – Ruska Bjala

[200, 700] (ERA 243C2) BG19/1

This route is used by fast trains between Sofia and Vraca not reversing at Mezdra.

(Plovdiv –) Filipovo – Skutare

[800] (ERA 248B5) BG19/2

Most trains between Plovdiv and Skutare (and onwards to Mihajlovo) run via a shorter, easterly route at Plovdiv and call at Trakija. In previous years one train has run to the west and north of Plovdiv via Filipovo,but there is no sign of this train in the current timetable.

(Sofia –) Volujak – Razmenna – Pernik-Razpredelitelna (– Pernik)

This is an alternative route to the main line between Sofia and Pernik, running via Volujak and Razmenna. Prior to an unknown date after December 2013 it ran directly into Pernik station via a now closed north <=> west curve. It now runs via the reinstated north <=> east curve to Pernik-Razpredelitelna, where trains reverse to reach Pernik.

(Sofia –) Razmenna – Kopanitsa

This is an alternative route for trains between Sofia and Radomir not required to call at Pernik. It was used in early December 2017 by the southbound Sofia to Thessaloniki international service due to engineering work north of Pernik.

(Sofia –) Cherepish – Ljutibrod (– Mezdra)

Between Ljutibrod and Cherepish the two tracks are on very different alignments for over a kilometre and are up to 170 metres apart. Indeed for a time the tracks are on opposite sides of the river Iskar.

(Sofia –) Ilijanci – Jana – Stolnik

[300] (ERA 246B2-C2) BG19/6

An alternative to the usual route from Sofia via Musachevo and Stolnik for services via Pirdop to Karlovo. Use appears to have resumed from an unknown date.
