Obscure Services

Racc de St.Germain-des-Fossés

[ERT 328, fiche 06 Lyon - Clermond-Ferrand] (ERA 32A1) FR20/100

The line from Lyon via Roanne makes a triangular junction with the Paris to Clermont-Ferrand main line south of St.Germain-des-Fossés station. The south-facing curve is used by TER services between Lyon and Clermont-Ferrand via Vichy.

St.Germain-des-Fossés - Roanne

[ERT 290, fiche 06 Lyon - Clermont-Ferrand] (ERA 32A1) FR20/101

This east to north curve is used by trains between Lyon and St-German-des-Fossés. This used to be the main line to Roanne, but after the east to south curve was built the service on the this curve has reduced considerably.

Intercités 4402 Nantes - 11:30 St-Germain-des-Fossés - Lyon Perrache
Intercités 4406 Nantes - 19:38 St-Germain-des-Fossés - Lyon Perrache
Intercités 4504 Lyon Perrache - 10:39 Roanne - Nantes
Intercités 4506 Lyon Perrache - 16:39 Roanne - Nantes

Ambérieu avoiding line: Ambronay-Priay – Torcieu

[ERT 341] (ERA 32B3) FR801

Used by TGVs between Bourg-en-Bresse and Aix-les-Bains-le-Revard.

Culoz avoiding line: Seyssel-Corbonod – Vions-Chanaz (Bifurcation de Chambéry

[ERT 364, fiche 51 Chambéry - Genève] (ERA 32B3) FR20/802

Used by trains between Bellegarde and Aix-les-Bains-le-Revard not scheduled to call at Culoz.

From Aix-les-Bains-le-Revard: 07:55 SuX, 08:55, 12:55, 15:53, 18:55

From Bellegarde: 07:29 SuX, 10:29, 12:29, 15:29

The few trains between Bellegarde and Aix-les-Bains-le-Revard scheduled to call at Culoz reverse in platform C and use a connection from that platform towards Bellegarde. Culoz platforms A and B (the normal platforms for Bellegarde trains) are some distance away from platforms C/D/E. The connection from platform C towards Bellegarde is therefore some distance away from the line through platforms A and B towards Bellegarde. Some people may consider these as being two separate routes.

Raccordement Valence TGV - Sillon Alpin Sud: east - south connection at Valence TGV

(ERA 32C2) FR19/803

This east to south curve between the Grenoble - Valence line and LGV Méditerranée, via Valence TGV platform 5, was used by TGVs running between Grenoble and points south on the LGV Méditerranée. One train each way between Marseille St. Charles and Annecy ran at weekends in July and August 2016.

This train is reported to have run for the last time on 4 November 2018, leaving this curve with no service.

This route is the opposite angle from the grade-separated Raccordement de Saint-Marcel-lès-Valence which allows through running between Valence and points north via LGV Sud Est.

(ERA 32B3) FR19/804

Lines used on an occasional basis for engineering work diversions

Rhône West Bank (Rive Droite) line: Givors Canal – Nîmes (Poste 1) and branches

[the southern portion of this line is in Occitanie region]

[fiche 05] (ERA 32B2-33A2) FR800

This line runs parallel with the Lyon to Montpellier main line between Givors and Nîmes, though mostly on the opposite bank of the River Rhône, principally as a freight and diversionary route. There are intermediate links between the two routes at St.Rambert d'Albon, Livron and Avignon Centre, and few passenger trains run the full length of the West Bank line. The line is used fairly regularly by passenger trains diverted for engineering work. Certain diverted trains can be identified when they are advertised to call at St.Péray or Le Teil (such calls may appear in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes fiche 05). These stations are on the West Bank line, and are retained so that passengers may board or alight from diverted trains near Valence and Montélimar, respectively.

For such diversions, readers should check for themselves by means of the TER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes website, fiche 05 and its associated engineering work notices.

The following sections of route are used from time to time.

  • (a) Givors Canal – St.Rambert d'Albon

Look for extended running times and omitted Vienne stops but no St.Péray stops.

  • (b) Givors Canal – Livron (via St.Péray)

Look for omitted Vienne and Tain l'Hermitage stops but still calling at Valence

  • (c) Givors Canal – Loriol (Livron south junction) (via St.Péray)

Look for St.Péray stops but not calling at Vienne or Valence

  • (d) Givors Canal – Avignon Centre

Look for St.Péray and Le Teil stops but omitted Vienne stops and still calling at Avignon Centre

  • (e) Givors Canal – Nîmes (Poste 1) (via Remoulins)

Look for St.Péray and Le Teil stops and omitted Vienne stops but running direct to Nîmes without calling at Avignon Centre

  • (f) Salaise (St.Rambert d'Albon north junction) – Livron (via St.Péray)

Look for St.Péray stops and still calling at Valence

  • (g) Salaise (St.Rambert d'Albon north junction) – Loriol (Livron south junction) (via St.Péray)
