This route comprises a west to north curve linking the Aschaffenburg and Flieden lines, avoiding the need to reverse at Gemünden (Main), and a connection from the old main line to the ''Schnellfahrstrecke'' towards Fulda at Burgsinn.  It is used occasionally for diversions when the line between Hanau and Flieden is blocked.  ''ICE'' route 11 and 12 trains (Berlin - Frankfurt am Main - München/Basel) were diverted via this route between 29 April and 1 May 2017, the services concerned having an extended journey time between Fulda and Hanau.
These two connections off the Erfurt to Breitengüßbach ''Schnellfahrstrecke'' are used by ''ICE'' trains calling at Coburg.

This spur links the lines leading east from Nürnberg on each bank of the Pegnitz. It is used by trains between Nürnberg Hbf and Neukirchen (b Sulzbach-Rosenberg) that call at Hersbruck (rechts Pegnitz) or are non-stop. Principal use is by ''RE'' services between Nürnberg, Schwandorf and Neustadt (Waldnaab).

(65B3, ''162C3-162B3'') DE16/654

This is a freight ring round the south side of Nürnberg.  It is sometimes used during the spring and sumer by special trips behind the replica steam locomotive ''Adler''.  There is very limited capacity, because the trains comprise a small number of replicas of carriages used on the original 1835 railway between Nürnberg and Fürth.  Advance reservation is essential, because trips are sold out well in advance.  For more information, including details of further trips when available, see the [http://www.dbmuseum.de DB Museum] website.  There were regular trips in 2016, but do not appear to be any in 2017.

[983,993] (''97D4'') DE19/655

This route via the western side of the Nürnberg ring line is used by the following train in order to avoid reversal at Nürnberg Hbf.
The lines to Ingolstadt from Augsburg and from Donauwörth join at Seehof Bbf and then split into two independent single tracks forming a flying junction with the main line from München. Crossovers south of Ingolstadt Hbf mean that all platforms are accessible from both routes, but the branch trains do not normally cross the main line on the flat. Trains to platforms 5, 6 and 7, on the east side of Ingolstadt Hbf use the flyover, but those to platforms 1, 2 and 2a on the west side do not. The hourly trains to and from Augsburg use platform 1 or occasionally 2, and the direct spur from Seehof Bbf. Trains to and from Donauwörth mostly run via the flyover and use platforms 5, 6 and 7.

This route via the full length of the Nürnberg ring line is to be used by ''ICE'' trains via Regensburg which omit a call at Nürnberg Hbf between 5 and 26 August 2017. On 7 August IC2337 1553 Köln - Passau ran from Fürth (where it called, despite not being shown to do so on the DB on-line system) and ran via the length of the freight ring (lines 5950 and 5963) to Reichswald.

[970] (''164B3-164D3'') DE19/657

===Ingolstadt Hbf – Weichering and Schrobenhausen (Seehof Bbf)===
The normal route for trains between Buchloe and München Hbf is by a flyover over the Starnberg line ''S-Bahn'' tracks (''S8'') west of Pasing, through platforms 1 to 3 there and thence to the north side platforms at Hauptbahnhof via the Fernbahn line from Starnberg (line 5504). The ''EC'' trains between München and Zürich via Lindau are booked to use an alternative route.  From Abzw Pasing West this dives under the Augsburg line, passes north of Pasing station and joins the Ingolstadt main line at Abzw München Kanal.

The [http://www.bayerisches-eisenbahnmuseum.de Bayerisches Eisenbahnmuseum] usually runs ''Nikolausfahrten rund um München'' on the first two weekends in December.  These depart from München Ost and operate via the Nordring; in past years they have usually been routed via München-Moosach.  Dates of operation in 2019 are 30 November and 1, 7 and 8 December, with departures from München Ost at 10:00, 11:30, 13:30 and 15:00. These trains also use the route between München Süd and München-Neulustheim via Laim Rbf and the connection between the ''S-Bahn'' and Mühldorf lines at Riedenburgerstrasse. On 8 December there is a two-train operation with trains departing at the same time and running in opposite directions round the loop.

Exceptionally, because of engineering work, the 2018 service was via a different route: München Ost - Laim Rbf - München-Moosach - München Nord Rbf - München-Allach - Laim Rbf - München Ost. The normal route is expected to resume use in 2019.

===Rosenheim avoiding line: Bad Endorf (Abzw Rosenheim Ost) – Pfraundorf (Inn) (Abzw Rosenheim Süd)===
[ÖBB 300] (''116C1-116C2'') DE19/663

This east to south curve linking the Salzburg and Wörgl lines provides a through route between Salzburg and Kufstein for Austrian ''Korridorzüge'', which run non-stop through Germany. They are not included in the DB ''Kursbuch'', but are those shown in the ÖBB [https://www.oebb.at/de/fahrplan/fahrplanbilder.html ''Fahrplanbilder''] (table 300) calling at both Kufstein and Salzburg Hbf.

===Rosenheim – Rohrdorf (Oberbay)===
(''116C1-116C2'') DE19/664

In recent years a train marketed as the "''Wiesn-Express''" has run on the 7.1 km freight branch from Rosenheim to Rohrdorf (Oberbay) for the Rosenheim Autumn Festival in late August and early September.

However it has been [https://www.radio-galaxy.com/kein-wiesn-express-dieses-jahr-29917/ announced] that in 2019 no service will operate. This is because the Wiesn Express now has to obtain its own safety certificate and the cost of this is too great for such a short operating season.

===Prien Bahnhof – Stock Hafen===
(Chiemsee-Schifffahrt Ludwig Feßler) (''116D1'') DE19/665

Trains operate over this line during the spring and summer, in connection with cruises on the Chiemsee.  Trains run hourly on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 1 May, and daily from 25 May, until late September.  For further information see [http://www.chiemsee-schifffahrt.de/ www.chiemsee-schifffahrt.de].

[615, 800, 801] (''78C3'') DE19/681

This route comprises a west to north curve linking the Aschaffenburg and Flieden lines, avoiding the need to reverse at Gemünden (Main), and a connection from the old main line to the ''Schnellfahrstrecke'' towards Fulda at Burgsinn.  It is used occasionally for diversions when the line between Hanau and Flieden is blocked.  ''ICE'' trains were diverted via this route between 29 April and 1 May 2017, the services concerned having an extended journey time between Fulda and Hanau.

===München-Moosach – München-Johanneskirchen (via München-Freimann)===
D40: Via this route on 10 March 2019 only
(''164D2-165C2'') DE17/662

The [http://www.bayerisches-eisenbahnmuseum.de Bayerisches Eisenbahnmuseum] usually runs ''Nikolausfahrten rund um München'' in December.  These depart from München Ost and operate via the Nordring; in past years they have usually been routed via München-Moosach.  Dates of operation in 2016 were 3, 4, 10 and 11 December.  These trains also use the route between München Süd and München-Neulustheim via Laim Rbf and the connection between the ''S-Bahn'' and Mühldorf lines at Riedenburgerstrasse.
The following are also scheduled to use this route every night 10/11 August to 1/2 September and Friday/Saturday and Sunday/Monday nights 6/7 September to 27/28 October 2019.

Between 29 July and 3 August 2017 various ''EC'' and ''IC'' trains between Augsburg and Salzburg are diverted via the München Nordring and reversal at München Ost.  These are trains which omit the usual booked stop at München Hbf.

===München-Moosach – München-Feldmoching (via München Nord RBf Lasallestraße)===
This route via the western side of the Nürnberg ring line may be used by ''IC/ICE'' trains between Augsburg and Würzburg during work on the line via Ansbach and this happened on several weekends in autumn 2017.  Bus replacement of local trains may indicate this.  This route may also be used by trains between the Treuchtlingen and Bamberg lines, in event of work in the Nürnberg area, but that is much less usual.
(''164D2-165D1'') DE17/663

From 5 to 24 August the main line is blocked between München-Moosach and München-Feldmoching.  Most ''RE'' and ''Alex'' trains from München have their journey time extended by about seven minutes and are understood to be diverted from München-Moosach via the Nordring at Lasallestraße.  A few with a more extended journey may run via route DE17/664.

===München-Feldmoching - München-Allach (via München Nord RBf Lasallestraße and München Nord Rbf Forstweg)===
This route via the full length of the Nürnberg ring line can be used by trains between Fürth and Regensburg in order to avoid Nürnberg Hbf.  ''ICE'' and ''IC'' trains ran this way in August 2017, but that was most unusual.  Any such diversion is indicated by the usual stop at Nürnberg Hbf being omitted.
(''165D1-164C2'') DE17/664

From 5 to 24 August the main line is blocked between München-Moosach and München-Feldmoching.  Most ''RE'' and ''Alex'' trains to München have their journey time extended by about eighteen minutes and are understood to be diverted from München-Feldmoching to München Allach via the Nordring between Lasallestraße and Forstweg.  A few with a less extended journey may run via route DE17/663.

===Rosenheim avoiding line: Bad Endorf (Abzw Rosenheim Ost) – Pfraundorf (Inn) (Abzw Rosenheim Süd)===
The München Nordring runs round the north side of the city and has connections to the Augsburg, Ingolstadt, Landshut and Rosenheim lines.  It is rarely used by passenger trains.  Some ''EC'' and ''IC'' trains were diverted this way between 29 July and 3 August 2017 and further diversions are scheduled in 2019.
[ÖBB 300] (''116C1-116C2'') DE17/665

This east to south curve linking the Salzburg and Wörgl lines provides a through route between Salzburg and Kufstein for Austrian ''Korridorzüge'', which run non-stop through Germany. They are not included in the DB ''Kursbuch'', but are those shown in the ÖBB ''Fahrpläne'' (table 300) calling at both Kufstein and Salzburg Hbf.

ICE92 Wien Hbf - 14:37 Nürnberg Hbf - Berlin Hbf/Rostock Hbf
ICE1700 München Hbf - 21:43 Bamberg - Berlin Hbf

The south connection from Abzw Weißenbrunn am Forst is also used by RE trains between Nürnberg and Sonneberg which are non-stop between Bamberg and Creidlitz or Coburg. These run every two hours.

Trebgast (Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg Süd) – Marktschorgast (Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg Ost) (Schlömener Kurve)

[860] (81B3) DE19/652

This south to north curve, opened in 2001, connects the Bayreuth and Hof lines, avoiding Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg. It is used by RE trains between Nürnberg and Hof via Bayreuth. These mostly run every two hours.

Hersbruck (rechts Pegnitz) – Pommelsbrunn

[870] (90A3) DE19/653

This spur links the lines leading east from Nürnberg on each bank of the Pegnitz. It is used by trains between Nürnberg Hbf and Neukirchen (b Sulzbach-Rosenberg) that call at Hersbruck (rechts Pegnitz). These comprise RE services between Nürnberg and Schwandorf or Neustadt (Waldnaab).

Nürnberg Hbf (Nürnberg-Dutzendteich) - Nürnberg-Eibach (via Nürnberg Rangierbahnhof)

[910] (162B4-162C3) DE19/654

This route via the eastern side of the Nürnberg ring line is used by the following trains in order to avoid reversal at Nürnberg Hbf.

D18 NJ421 Düsseldorf Hbf - 03:40/03:42 Nürnberg Hbf - Innsbruck Hbf
NJ420 Innsbruck Hbf - 22:52/22:53/23:07 München Hbf - Düsseldorf Hbf

D18: Not via this route Sunday to Thursday nights 14 March to 25 July 2019

Ingolstadt Hbf – Weichering and Schrobenhausen (Seehof Bbf)

[983,993] (97D4) DE19/655

Augsburg-Oberhausen – Neusäß (Augsburg-Hirblinger Straße)

[980] (163C3) DE19/656

There are two routes into Augsburg from Ulm, that from the east side of (and flying over) the Donauwörth line being used by most trains. The other, from the west side of the Donauwörth line, is used by trains between the Ulm line and platforms 7, 8 or 9 at Augsburg Hbf.

Major improvement work is taking place at Augsburg Hbf and during this period the platforms used by trains are liable to alteration.

Leienfelsstrasse (Abzw Pasing West) – München Hbf (Abzw München Kanal) (via Abzw Pasing Nord and the Abstellbahn line)

[970] (164B3-164D3) DE19/657

The normal route for trains between Buchloe and München Hbf is by a flyover over the Starnberg line S-Bahn tracks (S8) west of Pasing, through platforms 1 to 3 there and thence to the north side platforms at Hauptbahnhof via the Fernbahn line from Starnberg (line 5504). The EC trains between München and Zürich via Lindau are booked to use an alternative route. From Abzw Pasing West this dives under the Augsburg line, passes north of Pasing station and joins the Ingolstadt main line at Abzw München Kanal.

This route is also used between Abzw Pasing Nord and Abzw München Kanal by the following train via Augsburg:

D41 SO ICE1297 Hamburg Hbf - 14:11 Augsburg Hbf - Innsbruck Hbf

D41: 15 December 2018 to 23 March 2019, also 20 April 2019

[900, 950, 951, 990] (164C3-165A4) DE19/658

This route is used by trains between the Ingolstadt line and München Ost if not calling at München Hbf.

D21 FO IC1285 Hamburg-Altona – 17:27 Nürnberg Ost - München Ost/Schwarzach St Veit
D22 SSuO IC1727 Warnemünde - 17:27 Nürnberg Ost - München Ost

D22: 18 May to 28 July 2019

München-Pasing – München Ost (München Süd) (via Laim Rbf)

[950, 951, 980] (164D3-165A4) DE19/659

This route is one of two routes available for trains between München-Pasing and München Ost if not calling at München Hbf. It runs north of the main Augsburg line from München-Pasing via Laim Rbf and then under the main lines from München Hbf.

FSX NJ421 Düsseldorf Hbf - 06:29 SSuX Augsburg Hbf - Innsbruck Hbf
D23 SuX IC1296 Salzburg Hbf - 07:21 München Ost – Frankfurt am Main Hbf
D24 IC1918 Berchtesgaden Hbf - 12:03 München Ost - Dortmund Hbf
D23 EC216 Graz Hbf – 17:36 München Ost – Saarbrücken Hbf

D23: 15 March to 28 July 2019

D24: 25 June to 9 September and 10 November to 14 December 2019

München-Pasing (Abzw Landsberger Straße) – München Ost (München Süd) (via München Landsberger Straße

[950, 951, 980] (164D3-165A4) DE19/660

This is the alternative route between München-Pasing and München Ost if not calling at München Hbf. It diverges south from the Augsburg main line at Landsberger Straße to join route DE19/659 at Bft Friedenheimer Brücke. The following trains operate via this route from 15 March until 28 July 2019, unless shown otherwise.

D26: 24 June to 8 September and 9 November to 14 December 2019

D27: 17, 24 and 29 May and 7 June 2019

München-Pasing – München-Harras

[999.7] (164B3-165A4) DE19/661

This single track runs south of the main lines and the southern ring line from München-Pasing to Heimeranplatz and then joins the Holzkirchen line. It is used by S20 trains at peak times Mondays to Fridays.

München-Moosach – München-Johanneskirchen (via München-Freimann)

(164D2-165C2) DE19/662

The Bayerisches Eisenbahnmuseum usually runs Nikolausfahrten rund um München on the first two weekends in December. These depart from München Ost and operate via the Nordring; in past years they have usually been routed via München-Moosach. Dates of operation in 2019 are 30 November and 1, 7 and 8 December, with departures from München Ost at 10:00, 11:30, 13:30 and 15:00. These trains also use the route between München Süd and München-Neulustheim via Laim Rbf and the connection between the S-Bahn and Mühldorf lines at Riedenburgerstrasse.

Rosenheim avoiding line: Bad Endorf (Abzw Rosenheim Ost) – Pfraundorf (Inn) (Abzw Rosenheim Süd)

[ÖBB 300] (116C1-116C2) DE19/663

This east to south curve linking the Salzburg and Wörgl lines provides a through route between Salzburg and Kufstein for Austrian Korridorzüge, which run non-stop through Germany. They are not included in the DB Kursbuch, but are those shown in the ÖBB Fahrplanbilder (table 300) calling at both Kufstein and Salzburg Hbf.

Rosenheim – Rohrdorf (Oberbay)

(116C1-116C2) DE19/664

In recent years a train marketed as the "Wiesn-Express" has run on the 7.1 km freight branch from Rosenheim to Rohrdorf (Oberbay) for the Rosenheim Autumn Festival in late August and early September.

However it has been announced that in 2019 no service will operate. This is because the Wiesn Express now has to obtain its own safety certificate and the cost of this is too great for such a short operating season.

Prien Bahnhof – Stock Hafen

(Chiemsee-Schifffahrt Ludwig Feßler) (116D1) DE19/665

Trains operate over this line during the spring and summer, in connection with cruises on the Chiemsee. Trains run hourly on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 1 May, and daily from 25 May, until late September. For further information see www.chiemsee-schifffahrt.de.

Obscure services: Lines used on an occasional basis for engineering work diversions

Langenprozelten - Gemünden Zollberg - Rieneck - Rieneck Sinnberg - Burgsinn Bbf - Fulda

[615, 800, 801] (78C3) DE19/681

This route comprises a west to north curve linking the Aschaffenburg and Flieden lines, avoiding the need to reverse at Gemünden (Main), and a connection from the old main line to the Schnellfahrstrecke towards Fulda at Burgsinn. It is used occasionally for diversions when the line between Hanau and Flieden is blocked. ICE trains were diverted via this route between 29 April and 1 May 2017, the services concerned having an extended journey time between Fulda and Hanau.

Burgsinn - Burgsinn Bbf - Würzburg

[800.1] (78C3) DE19/682

This route comprises a connection between Burgsinn, on the old main line, and the Schnellfahrstrecke towards Würzburg. It was used by IC and ICE trains between Hanau and Würzburg on several occasions in 2017 and early 2018. Trains concerned had an extended journey time and did not stop at Aschaffenburg.

Bamberg avoiding line: Oberhaid (Höflein) - Hallstadt (b Bamberg)

[810, 820] (80B4) DE19/683

This west to north curve enables trains to run between the Schweinfurt and Saalfeld lines without reversing at Bamberg Hbf. The following trains are diverted this way on 23 February to 3 March 2019, unless shown otherwise.

D ICE993 Hamburg-Altona – 23:41 Erfurt Hbf - München Hbf
D ICE992 München Hbf - 02:47 Frankfurt am Main Hbf - Berlin Hbf

Nürnberg-Eibach - Fürth (Bay) Hbf (via Nürnberg Großmarkt)

[910] (162B4-162B3) DE19/684

This route via the western side of the Nürnberg ring line may be used by IC/ICE trains between Augsburg and Würzburg during work on the line via Ansbach and this happened on several weekends in autumn 2017. Bus replacement of local trains may indicate this. This route may also be used by trains between the Treuchtlingen and Bamberg lines, in event of work in the Nürnberg area, but that is much less usual.
