Introduction

This list is based on the timetable dated from 15 December 2019 to 12 December 2020, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information. Map references relate to the 2017 issue of the Schweers+Wall Eisenbahnatlas Deutschland.

Obscure services

Waren (Müritz) (Lalendorf Ost) – Plaaz

[205 Nord] (15B3-15C3) DE20/101

This route is normally used by IC and ICE trains between Berlin and Rostock, which are not booked to call at Güstrow. RE5 services run via Güstrow so do not use this route.

From 8 March, a two-hourly IC service operates daily between Dresden Hbf, Berlin Hbf and Rostock Hbf via this route. Northbound departures are at 58 minutes past each even hour from Waren (Müritz) between 08:58 and 20:58, and southbound trains are at 21 minutes past each odd hour from Rostock Hbf from 06:21 until 18:21, plus 20:23 FSX.

Additional long-distance IC and ICE services operate over this route, particularly in the summer months. These are shown in Table 205 Nord of the DB Kursbuch.

Stralsund Rügendamm – Wüstenfelde (Abzw Srg)

[190] (6A1) DE20/102

This east to south curve is used by trains between the island of Rügen and the Pasewalk or Neubrandenburg lines, if not booked to call at Stralsund Hbf. The overnight trains between Malmö and Berlin mostly ran this way until 2019, although they occasionally reversed at Stralsund Hbf. It appears that these trains will run via Rostock Seehafen this year from when they resume in mid-June (see DE20/104), and so not use this curve.

The curve is used occasionally by excursions. Look particularly for trips from Berlin to the Störtebeker Festspiele, held on Rügen each year.

Lietzow (Abzw Borchtitz) – Sassnitz Fährhafen [Mukran]

(7C2) DE20/103

Until 2019, this branch was used by the overnight trains which ran during the summer between Berlin Hbf and Malmö C.

Services in 2020 are cancelled until at least the end of May. Although the ferry service from Sassnitz is due to resume from the beginning of June, sailings are mostly during the day. This means that the overnight trains, when they resume in mid-June, will have to use the Rostock to Trelleborg ferry instead (see DE20/104 below).

Overnight ferries are booked to operate to and from Sassnitz on a few dates, but it is not yet clear whether or not the trains will be routed that way on the nights the boats are running.

For further information see the Snälltåget site.

Kavelstorf - Rostock Seehafen

(123A1-B4) DE20/104

All journeys between Berlin Hbf and Malmö C are cancelled until at least the end of May. From mid-June, services are booked to resume. Because the Sassnitz to Trelleborg ferry (DE20/103) is only operating during the day on most days from June onwards, the Berlin to/from Malmö trains will have to use the Rostock ferry and hence this route.

Trains are booked to operate on the following dates although this is subject to short-notice alteration owing to the Covid-19 situation:

  • Northbound (D300): Depart Berlin Hbf 19:25 on 14, 16 and 18 June then daily from 22 June - 30 August.
  • Southbound (D301): Depart Malmö C 17:00 on 13, 15 and 17 June then daily from 21 June - 29 August;

On occasional dates the night ferries between Sassnitz and Trelleborg will operate but it is not yet known whether the trains will run via Sassnitz or via Rostock on those dates.
