Introduction

This list is based on the timetable dated from 09 December 2012 to 14 December 2013, unless otherwise stated. The additional map references - prefixed by 'ERA1' - refer to the European Railway Atlas 2008 (M.G.Ball; published by European Railway Atlas).

Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information. The MAV timetable contains a number of non-standard notes; for details see General_Information - Additional Notes on reading the Timetable.

Obscure services

Almásfüzitő avoiding line: Tata – Almásfüzitő felső

[1] (42A1 not shown, ERA1 96B4 not shown) HU13/1

Almásfüzitő station is on a loop separated from the main line by some sidings. The avoiding line is used by trains not calling at Almásfüzitő station.

Érd felső (Érd elagazas) – Tárnok

[30a] (47B3 not shown, ERA1 99C4-3) HU13/2

Use of this link between the Székesfehérvár and Sárbogárd lines relieves pathing pressure on the Budapest - Székesfehérvár line, which is only single track with passing places, compared to the Budapest - Sárbogárd line which is double track. This route is used by those table 30a trains that have a timing or | marking at Érd felső, but it should be noted that punctuality can affect the route taken by non-stop trains.

Engineering work on the table 30a route via Erd alsó means that all trains between Budapest and Székesfehérvár are running via this route during October - December 2012 - see under http://www.mav.hu/utasok.php#30.

Dombóvár avoiding line: Dombóvár alsó – Kaposszekcsős

[40, 41] (47A2, ERA1 97B3) HU13/3

This west to south spur is used by trains between Kaposvár and Pécs which do not call at Dombóvár. The platforms at Dombóvár alsó are on the curve so trains which start/terminate/reverse here do not connect with the line towards Kaposvár.

8801 Celldömölk - 20:16 Kaposvár – Pécs
E SuO 18801 Fonyód – 21:00 Kaposvár – Pécs
8802 Pécs – 08:14 Sásd – Celldömölk
E SO 18800 Pécs – 06:53 Sásd – Siófok

Eger-Rendező: Eger-Rendező elágazás – Eger-Rendező – Eger

[87a] (43A1 not shown, ERA1 98B2) HU13/4

The single line approaching Eger from the south splits significantly to serve a substantial goods yard [Rendező] and offers bi-directional alternative routes of around 2km for arrivals and departures.

The route via the goods yard is used by the following service which, although it is not booked to cross a southbound train, takes an additional 2 minutes between Andornaktálya and Eger.

5552 Füzesabony - 07:02 Andornaktálya – Eger

Cegléd avoiding line: Nyársapáti elágazás – Abony

[82, 140] (48A3, ERA1 98C1) HU13/5

D SuO 1575 Miskolc-Tiszai - 19:01 Abony – Szeged

Szolnok avoiding line: Abony (“B” elágazás) – Abonyi út (“C” elágazás)

[82, 140] (48A3, ERA1 98C5) HU13/6

A west to north curve avoiding Szolnok.

D FO 1755 Szeged - 15:02 Abony – Miskolc-Tiszai
D SuO 1575 Miskolc-Tiszai - 18:40 Újszász – Szeged

Kőbánya felső - Rákos (via low level tracks)

[80a, 30] (44B2 not shown, ERA1 99C4-5) HU13/7

This route is via low level tracks from the south side of Kőbánya felső station to the north side of Rákos station. The following trains used this route in August 2011.

E 5609 Miskolc-Tiszai – 08.47 Rákos – Balatonszentgyörgy
E 5608 Balatonszentgyörgy – 18.50 Ferencváros – Miskolc Tiszai

Budapest-Ferencváros - Kőbánya felső

[80a, 30] (44B2, ERA1 99C4) HU13/8

An east - west link avoiding Budapest Keleti.

E 5609 Miskolc-Tiszai – 08:47 Rákos – Balatonszentgyörgy
E 5608 Balatonszentgyörgy – 18.50 Budapest Ferencváros – Miskolc Tiszai

[25, 20] (46B3 not shown, ERA1 96C2) HU13/10

A south to east curve avoiding Boba.
