Introduction

This 2016 list is based on the PDF's issued w.e.f. 16 October 2016 within the timetable period from 12 December 2015 until 10 December 2016. Travellers are strongly advised to check the Journey Planners for ALL Unusual lines timings as changes can and are made on a regular basis.

In 2016 a number of one off specials are included in the PDFs so, where these use unusual lines, they are shown here. These comprise:

  • Frequent excursions run by Turkol (Turystyka Kolejowa).
  • Special services run by PKP-PR for the Woodstock Festival Poland (Przystanek Woodstock), a very large annual free rock music festival held at Kostrzyn, normally in early July. These trains require special tickets; normal PKP tickets are not valid.

Many Turkol excursions may involve the Wolsztyn steam engines and freight only track not listed below, such as Miedzychod, Szprotawa, Lubsko, Kruszwica and Wapienno. See the Turkol 2016 calendarfor details.

The order of entries involving the CMK and table 315 have been changed from 2015 into a more logical geographical as opposed to table number sequence.

Standard abbreviations used are explained in General Information. Map references to pages in the "Mały Atlas Linii Kolejowych Polski 2011", ISBN 978-83-931006-3-7, published by Wydawnictwo Eurosprinter, are shown in italics eg R14.

For details of recent and near future route openings and closures, please refer to Poland - General Information.

Obscure services

Connections to and from the CMK

Tomaszów Mazowiecki - Dęba Opoczyńska - p.odg. Zapowiedź - Idzikowice/Radzice

[100, 113, 114] (ERA78C5, E9) PL16/1

Since withdrawal of local trains from Radom beyond the Mazowieckie Regional Boundary, the only regular use of a 25km section of 114 from Tomaszów Mazowiecki plus a 4.5 km west to south link with the CMK are those shown in 114 with a timing or | at Opoczno Poludnie.

Additionally the 2.5km section linking PL16/1 with PL16/2 at Radzice is only booked for passenger use by a pair of Woodstock services as listed in Table 113.

13 August PR-MR 28103 Lublin - 21:40 Radom - Kostrzyn
17 August PR-MR 82103 Kostrzyn - 21:25 Tomaszów Mazowiecki - Lublin -

Radzice – Line 573 - Idzikowice - CMK

[100/113] (ERA78B5-C5, E9) PL16/2

The Woodstock PR-MR pair in 2015 do not run this way in 2016 [was also by a few short term TLK diversions] but from 13 March 2016 the KM operated 'Radomiak' train pair non-stop between Radom and Warzsawa Zachodnia and v.v. use this curve. It was thought this would end in June but continues in the current PDF's diverted via line 113 to Radzice and then this curve to Idzikovice (reverse) and the CMK to/from Warszawa.

SuX KM21680 05:10 Radom - Warszawa Wschodnia
SX KM12682 Warszawa Wschodnia - 16:09 Warszawa Zachodnia - Radom -

(Częstochowa) - Żelisławice – Włoszczowa Północ - Warszawa

[100/109, P200] (ERA78C4, F8) PL16/3

This 7.7 km west to north link between the Częstochowa - Radom and northbound CMK (Katowice/Kraków - Warszawa main line) is used by EIC Pendelino’s which travel non-stop Warszawa - Częstochowa Stradom en route to Opole and Wrocław and vice versa, plus four pairs of trains to/from Kielce via the CMK which reverse at Żelisławice. Note the EIC’s do not appear in timetable 100 but Table P200

Czarnca – Psary (p.odg. Knapówka)

[100, 109] (ERA78C4, F8) PL16/4

This 3.8 km east-to-south link between the Kielce - Częstochowa line and the CMK (Central main line) is used by 5 pairs of trains marked in table 109 with a '<' at all stations between Żelisławice and Częstochowa plus a timing at Katowice or Wroclaw.

Psary – p.odg. Starzyny – Kozłów

[100] (ERA78C3&C4, F8) PL16/5

This north-to-southeast link between the CMK (Central main line) and the Koniecpol - Kozłów line is used by all trains using the CMK between Warszawa and Krakow with either a vertical bar '|' or a timing against Kozłów.

End of connections to and from the CMK

(Zawiercie) – Łazy - Line 160 south, 186 north - Dąbrowa Gornicza Ząbkowice

[102] (ERA77C2 shown incorrectly, G7 R18) PL16/6

Alternative north and south bound freight routes identified by < markers between Łazy and Dąbrowa Górnicza Sikorka. Shown to be in use by one southbound service from June 2016 PDF which from Łazy should turn onto a separate vertical alignment followed by a flyover to join line 186 avoiding Chruszczobród.

PR 43221 Częstochowa - 06:54 Łazy - Kraków Płaszów -

Any use northbound would again use line 186 avoiding Chruszczobród station, then run on the east side of the first, and in-between parts of two freight yards north of Łazy but none identified in the June 2016 PDF's. Both routes were in regular passenger use in Autumn 2014, southbound use has continued and northbound by one service until July 2015. Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

Chrusty Nowe (p.odg. Bęzelin) – Żakowice (p.odg. Pękowice)

[102, 601] (ERA78C5, F9) PL16/7

This south-to-west curve avoiding Koluszki is used by trains between Łódź and Piotrków Trybunalski/Częstochowa that do not call at Koluszki.

Sosnowiec Dańdówka - p.odg Dorota - Dąbrowa Górnicza Wschodnia

[105] (ERA?, R18) PL16/7A

No scheduled use after all T105 services were again diverted as above from 12 June until 3 September 2016. Note this involves traversal of two lengthy separate line flying junctions either side of p.odg Dorota.

Koniecpol - Kozłów (p.odg. Starzyny)

[107, 109] (ERA78B4, F8) PL16/8

This 11 km line reopened in the 2012 timetable. Trains in Table 109 with a timing at Częstochowa/ Częstochowa Stradom and Kraków take this route.

Dęblin: Zajezierze k. Dęblina (p.odg. Wisła R2) – Zarzeka (p.odg. Wisła R1)

[111/550] (ERA79A5, E10) PL16/9

This west-to-south curve avoiding Dęblin is used by direct services between Radom and Lublin. They appear in table 111 with a '<' symbol against Dęblin.

[Łódź] - Gałkówek – Mikołajów – [Tomaszów Mazowiecki]

[114/601] (ERA78B5-C5, E8, R11) PL16/10

There are two possible routes between Łódź and Tomaszów Mazowiecki avoiding Koluszki - the more usual southernmost and direct double track line from Gałkówek via Żakowice Płd to Mikołajów or the more northerly, single track Line 537 via Słotwiny to Żakowice Płd. From the June 2016 PDF Table for 114 there are some services with station calls at Słotwiny and < markers at Koluszki suggesting they are scheduled via the previously unusual Line 537. The compilers would welcome confirmation that this is what happens in practice.

Tomaszów Mazowiecki – Spała

[114] (ERA78C5, E8) PL16/11

PR Łódź sponsored the first passenger service on this branch since 1988 from 2014. In 2016 one pair ran SSuO between 9 July and 4 September but with just 75 places needed to be pre-booked via website www.inowlodz.pl. Timings were Łodz Kaliska depart 08:35 Spała 10:11, returning at 17:56 to Łodz Kaliska 19:36

[116, 121] (ERA79B3, G11), PL16/13

This curve allows trains from Stalowa Wola to Rzeszow on 116 to avoid reversing at Przeworsk. After no use since the short term 14 September until 16 October 2015, the following are scheduled from June 2016.

Kraków northern loop line: Kraków Batowice – Kraków Nowa Huta – Podłęże

[120] (ERA78C3, R15) PL16/14

The June 2016 PDF shows three pairs of IC's booked via this route on one day in addition to the believed ongoing workers' service to the closed PKP stations serving the steel works complex at Nowa Huta which is believed to still run. The times below are from the 2008 working timetable and it should be noted that the evening and weekend services were worked by a track maintenance draisine with very limited capacity.

[122] (ERA79B2 not shown, H12) PL16/15

There are three routes between these points; from north to south they are:

  • Line 92, the 1520 mm gauge line into Ukraine.
  • Line 989, a 1435 mm gauge line through the marshalling yards, terminating at Medyka
  • Line 91, the 1435 mm gauge line into Ukraine, which terminates at the modern SUW 2000 gauge changer at Mostys'ka 2 in Ukraine.

Lines 91 and 92 are used by the Lviv/Lvov services on alternate days in each direction as one set consists of PKP stock and the other of UZ stock, with one set changing gauge at Mostys'ka 2, and the other performing a manual boogie change at Przemyśl.

Lin 92 is used by the Kyiv-Lviv-Przemyśl Intercity service 705/706 that uses the broad track platform at Przemyśl Główny.

Line 92 is used by the Lviv/Lvov services which change gauge at Przemyśl Główny.

Stalowa Wola Rozwadów Towarowy – Pilchów

[126, 555] (ERA78C5, G11) PL16/16

This curve (line 565) is used by direct services between Lublin and Tarnobrzeg (- Rzeszow). They can be identified by a '<' symbol against Stalowa Wola Rozwadów in 126 and 555

Gorlice Zagórzany – Gorlice

[131] (ERA79A2, H10) PL16/16a

After several years with no trains this short branch has a very limited service on Fridays and Sundays from 12 June 2016.

30968 Rzeszów - 16:41 Jasło - Gorlice
30970 Rzeszów - 17:25 Jasło - Gorlice

Jasło – Gorlice - Stroze

[131] (ERA79A2, H10) PL16/16b

All PL16/16a trains use the section to Jasło but the complete line only has one dated TLK.

D SSuO TLK 30203 Krakow Glowny - 05:20 Stroze - Jasło - Zagorz
D SSuO TLK 33202 Zagorz - 21:27 Jasło - Krakow Glowny

[134] (ERA79B1/B2, H11) PL16/16a

A dated service on line 134 appeared in the timetable pdfs to 11 June 2016 and continues on limited dates.

Oświęcim - Skawina

[141] (ERA78B2, G7-G8) PL16/17

Local services covering all of 141 resumed on 12 December 2015 plus the Kraków Główny - Budapest Keleti night train continues to run this way although it appears only in table 135!

Oświęcim avoiding curve: Oświęcim OwC1 - OwC

[141/120] (ERA78B2 not shown, G7) PL16/18

This north <=> east curve links the Mysłowice and Skawina lines. One overnight pair has > markers on table 140 at Kraków Glowny and reappears at Kraków Plasów so will probably run this route in addition to numerous 2016 Woodstock specials which have calls at stations on 141 and 149.

Katowice – flyover departure line – Katowice Brynów (p.odg. Brynów)

[146, 151] (ERA77B2 not shown, R17) PL16/19

Westbound departures from Katowice platforms 1-4 towards Katowice Ligota can run either via the main line (line 139) or via a flyover (line 656) over the main line to Gliwice. From observation, all trains departing from platform 1 at Katowice appear to use this route.

Czechowice Dziedzice avoiding line: Goczałkowice Zdrój (p.odg. Most Wisła) – Zabrzeg (p.odg. Ochodza)

[146, 147] (ERA78B2, H7) PL16/20

The north-to-west curve avoiding Czechowice Dziedzice is used by all trains in table 146 and also trains to and from Katowice shown in table 147 with a '<' symbol against Czechowice Dziedzice.

Nędza Wieś – Kuźnia Raciborska (p.odg. Turze)

[153/160 not shown but in 154] (ERA78A3, G6) PL16/21

This east-to-north chord avoiding Nędza station was used by trains running direct between Kędzierzyn Koźle and Rybnik. Use was previously indicated by a '<' symbol in table 153 but they now only appear in tables 154 and 220 so must travel via this curve. There are also three pairs of Woodstock specials listed on T154.

TLK 64103 Wroclaw Główny - 19:47/20:04 Kędzierzyn Koźle – Bielsko-Biała Główna
SuX TLK 46102 Bielsko-Biała Główna - 07:46 Rybnik - Wroclaw Główny
SuO TLK 46116 Bielsko-Biała Główna - 19:12 Rybnik - Wroclaw Główny

Rybnik – Sumina

[153/160 not shown but in 154] (ERA77A1, G6, H6) PL16/22

There are two routes between Rybnik and Sumina: a direct line and a longer route via Rybnik Towarowy and Rydułtowy used by all local services. Direct line use was previously indicated by a '<' symbol against the longer route stations in table 153 but they are now omitted and only appear in tables 154 and 220. Therefore it can only be assumed they will again be the only services to travel the direct route, plus tracks avoiding Sumina station so Reports would be welcomed by the Compilers. Similarly there were three pairs of Woodstock specials listed on T154.

TLK 64103 Wroclaw Główny - 19:47/20:04 Kędzierzyn Koźle – Bielsko-Biała Główna
SuX TLK 46102 Bielsko-Biała Główna - 07:46 Rybnik - Wroclaw Główny
SuO TLK 46116 Bielsko-Biała Główna - 19:12 Rybnik - Wroclaw Główny

Żory - Chybie)

[154] (ERA78A3, G6-H7) PL16/23

One Woodstock returning service was confirmed to use this route in 2015 but none are scheduled in 2016.

Kędzierzyn Koźle – Kędzierzyn Koźle Azoty (p.odg. Koźle)

[160] (ERA78A3 not shown, R14) PL16/24

There are three routes between Kędzierzyn Koźle and p.odg. Stare Koźle. The normal passenger route is easternmost (line 709), a 4 km single track flying over the curves to the Gliwice line and via a staff halt at the PKP Depot to terminate in Peron 1, which resumed being the usual route for PR local trains with the June 2016 PDF's/Peron sheets.

Any southbound service departing Kędzierzyn Koźle platform IV towards Rybnik and Racibórz must use line 151 on the west side of the yard (where the north and south-bound lines are up to 0.5 km apart) and the following departures are shown in the October 2016 Peron sheets: PR 64407 @ 09.59/10.05, PR 64409 @ 12.01, PR 99415 @ 14.00/14.01, PR 64421 @ 16.57/17.01, TLK 64103 @ 19.47/20.04 and PR 64429 @ 21.33.

The Autumn and December 2015 Peron PDF's showed all Table 160 services using Peron IV, but from 12 June 2016 only by one northbound arrival which reverses to head towards Katowice. This TLK 41112, 07.11/07.18 Raciborz to Warszawa Wschodnia via Kędzierzyn Koźle [reverse] may use a normally freight only flyover and line 151 northbound so confirmation of this would be appreciated by the Compilers.

Lubliniec – Paczyna

[165] (ERA78A3 Lubliniec not shown correctly, G6) PL16/25

The limited services on this table are the only ones using a 36.5 km section of an otherwise freight only line which has a substantial grade separated junction at Lubliniec.

Gliwice - Bytom

[166] (ERA77A2-B2, G7 R16/17) PL16/26

Only one short term use train was booked to use this former local passenger line in Winter 2016, no use shown in subsequent PDF's. Note that the junction at Bytom is east of the station

Częstochowa avoiding line: Częstochowa Stradom – Kusięta Nowe (p.odg. Kucelinka) (– Koniecpol)

[175] (ERA78B4, R15) PL16/27

This line enables trains between Wrocław/Opole and Warszawa (via the CMK) or Krakow to avoid having to reverse at Częstochowa Osobowa (the main station) by calling instead at Częstochowa Stradom. Use can be identified in table 175 by a > at Częstochowa.

Częstochowa Stradom - Poraj

[175,102] (ERA78B4; F7 R15) PL16/28

The following Woodstock service as taken from the Kostrzyn Peron sheets showing a call at Częstochowa Stradom will use either short curve Line 702 to/from Częstochowa Raków or via Line 155 and Częstochowa Mirów but it does not appear in the on-line PDF for 102 or 175 so the route taken is not known. Further information would be welcomed by the Compilers.

11 July PR - MR38109 Rzeszow - 23:20 Zawiercie - Kostrzyn [Note also via PL16/14a]

Herby Stare – Boronów (p.odg Kalina)

[175/180] (ERA78B4, F7) PL16/29

This 2.2km east <=> south curve, [line 687] regains a service in 2016

SSuX PR 44301 Częstochowa - 08:45 Herby Stare - Tarnowskie Góry
SSuX PR 44302 Tarnowskie Góry - 13:20 Boronów - Częstochowa

Lisów – Herby Stare

[175] (ERA78B4 not shown, F7) PL16/30

The east and westbound routes take significantly different routes through a forest between these points.

Herby Stare – Herby Nowe

[175, 315, 320, 322 IC19] (ERA78B4, F7) PL16/31

This 2.42 km east-to-north curve was used in 2015 by three Woodstock music festival services but none are scheduled to do so in 2016.

Dąbrowa Oleśnicka – Oleśnica Rataje – Oleśnica

[200, 321] (ERA77C4, F5) PL16/32

Most trains between Ostrów Wielkopolski and Wrocław Główny take the direct route via the north to west curve (Dąbrowa Oleśnicka – Oleśnica Rataje – Borowa Oleśnica (p.odg. Łukanów)) avoiding Oleśnica. However some take this north-to-east curve into Oleśnica station and reverse. Either a timing or > against Oleśnica indicates which route is taken. Note this curve and the north to west curve consist of separate single lines between Dąbrowa Oleśnicka and Oleśnica Rataje.

Ostrów Wielkopolski avoiding curve

[200, 320] (ERA78A5, E5) PL16/33

Two westbound Woodstock services were scheduled to use this curve in 2015 but there are none in 2016.

Wrocław Nadodrze - Line 752 - Wrocław Gądów

[200, 265] (ERA?, R13) PL16/33a

Some Woodstock services are again scheduled to use this curve

13 July 2016 PR MR28109 Lublin - 05:41 Wrocław Nadodrze - Kostrzyn
17 July 2016 PR MR82006 Kostrzyn - 09:08 Wołów - Lublin
17 July 2016 PR MR83112 Kostrzyn - 12:31 Głogów - Rzeszów

Zgorzelec avoiding line: Jerzmanki (p.odg. Krysin) – Zgorzelec Miasto (p.odg. Zgorzelec Miasto)

[255] (ERA77A4, F2) PL16/34

Trains between Jelenia Góra and Węgliniec either ran via Zgorzelec and unusually reversed west of the station, [calling twice] or used the Zgorzelec avoiding line to run direct to Zgorzelec Miasto. In 2016 those calling at Zgorzelec no longer run to/from Węgliniec but are extended across the border to Gorlitz in Germany and now run daily, with those via the avoiding line with a < next to Zgorzelec.

Legnica - Lubin Gorniczy - Rudna Gwizdanow

[267] (ERA77B5, F3 - E3) PL16/35

Again used by Woodstock specials, three northbound on 12-15 July 2016 and two southbound on 17 July 2016 which now appear in a PDF for table 267 confirming a call at Lubin Gorniczy

Września avoiding line Gutowo Wlkp. (p.odg. Sokołowo Wrzesińskie) – Podstolice (Pd box)

[300] (ERA75A1, D5) PL16/36

This east <=> west main line avoiding Września station is used by trains on table 300 shown as not calling at Września.

Poznań Franowo

[300/398/430] (ERA74C1, R10&D4) PL16/37

Poznań Franowo is a large marshalling yard and Depot on the south freight ring around Poznań. Extensive engineering work diversions ran from March 2007 until 2011 and since then the only timetabled use has been by occasional periods for overnight trains to/from Szczecin and Warszawa avoiding reversal en route, plus recently by Turkol Steam charters with complete circuits from Poznań Główny advertised by Turkol on 27/12/15, 24/1/16, 2/5/16, 27/10/16, 26/11/16 & 10/12/16. Within the Franowo area these steam circuits can take different routes if they travel anticlockwise, line 352 on the north side or Lines 823/824, a southside route from p.odg Pokrzywno and a flyover to p.odg Stary Młyn. Line 352 on the north side runs via the platforms used by the staff trains prior to their withdrawal in approx December 2006 and westbound or clockwise Turkol charters must take this route. Any eastbound overnight service to T300 could run via Line 352, or 823/824 and then line 806 outside the above mentioned flyover [not shown on Ball or Quail maps] towards Swarzędz. Some 2015 Woodstock services also used other Franowo area combinations as below

[Gniezno –] Kobylnica - line 394 - Poznań Franowo

[430] (ERA74C1, R10&D4) PL16/38

One Woodstock, westbound only was booked this route by < markers in 2015, but all those via Gniezno in 2016 are booked non-stop via Poznań Glowny.

Poznań Gorczyn – Line 801 - Poznań Dębina - [Poznan Starołęka]

[300a] (ERA74C1, R10) PL16/39

Numerous Woodstock services in both directions between 13 - 17 July 2016 are shown in tables 300a/320 with calls at Jarocin and Rzepin and < markers at Poznań Glowny so should run via this line.

[Swarzędz ] - Line 352 - Poznań Franowo - Poznan Starolęka

[300a/360] (ERA74C1, R10&D4) PL16/39a

A Summer Sleeper pair were booked via Franowo to avoid reversal in Poznań Glowny but no reports were received of the route taken by the eastbound service which may also have used Lines 824 and 806 through Franowo. No service in October 2016 PDF's.

Former Table 315: Częstochowa Aniołow/Herby Stare - Zduńska Wola Karsznice - Inowrocław/Bydgoszcz

This lengthy north - south line had local passenger services, plus scheduled summer overnights or scheduled diversions of TLK and IC services over its entire 260 km length in recent years, but is now almost exclusively freight only. Many of its numerous junctions have also seen passenger use in recent times. The previously scattered EGTRE entries have now been grouped together sequenced from south to north.

Częstochowa Aniołow (p.odg. Wyczerpy) - Chorzew Siemkowice OR Herby Stare - Herby Nowe - Chorzew Siemkowice - Zduńska Wola Karsznice - Zduńska Wola

[315, 173, 175] (ERA75B1, 78B4,78B5, 75B1; D7,E7,F7) PL16/40

From Częstochowa Aniołow was in use during the 2015 ski-ing and summer seasons and the June 2016 PDF shows a pair of Turkol operated Pilgrim specials with < markers after Zdunska Wola on table 200 so must divert onto 315. Which option south of Chorzew Siemkowice is taken is not known as they are not in 102 nor 175.

15 August 2016 PR 47107 17:20 Częstochowa - Zduńska Wola - Poznań Główny

Note on 173 there is a significant grade separated junction at p.odg. Wyczerpy, where the lines remain apart and on significantly different vertical alignments for 3 km as far as Rząsawa.

On 315 there is a significant flying junction north of Herby Nowe with the southbound line from Chorzew Siemkowice climbing over the line from Kepno and the north and south tracks diverging by at least 1 km.

Zduńska Wola Karsznice – Szadek (p.odg. Dionizów) – Ponętów - Lipie Gory (p.odg. Borysławice) (– Inowrocław)

[300, 315] (ERA75A2-75B1; D7-C6) PL16/43

During upgrading the Warszawa - Iława - Malbork - Gdynia main line there were a number of years with timetabled diversions via Kutno and an east to north curve onto freight line 315 towards Inowrocław. Overnight use resumed in summer 2015 but none scheduled in 2016.

Inowrocław avoiding line: Inowrocław Rabinek – Line 741 – Jaksice (– Bydgoszcz Gł)

[315, 430] (ERA75A2; C6-D6) PL16/44

Inowrocław Rabinek – Inowrocław (Inowroclaw Towawory) via Line 742

[315, 405] (ERA75A2; D6) PL16/45

A continuation of PL16/43, a single track connection between Line 315 and the south side of the Poznań line used by 315 services calling at Inowroclaw. Note that the connection north of the flyover, joining the north side of the Poznań line, is not used by passenger trains. No use after 25th April 2015.

Domanin (p.odg. Hanulin - Kępno (low level)- Wielun Dąbrowa

[320/322] (ERA78A4 not shown correctly, F6) PL16/46

Kępno is a two level station. The Poznań - Ostrów - Kluczbork line has high level platforms at right angles to the Herby Nowe line low level platforms. There are two connecting curves but all passenger services use the 1.8 km north-to-east outside curve (Line 812) connecting the line from the Ostrów direction with the west end of the low level platforms. It is used by any through services to/from Ostrów via Wieluń Dąbrowa [but there are none with effect from 16 October 2016] and trains that start or terminate at Kępno from the Ostrów direction as there is no facility for trains to reverse at the high level platforms. A huge increase in use from early 2016 continues with the October arrival and departures sheets confirming PKP PR departures from Kępno Low Level at 05:45, 07:50, 09:11 SSuX, 11:50, 13:43, 15:40, 17:25 SSuO & 19:55 and arrivals at 07:21, 08:22 SSuX, 11:18, 13:29, 15:25, 16:22, 19:35 and 21:23

Despite the PDF markers still suggesting use of the above, the Journey planner shows IC5324 Bydgoszcz Główna – 06:32 Gniezno - Kraków Główny running via, and with a call at Poznan Glowny.

Jarocin east side – Golina (– Krotoszyn)

[321] (ERA77C1, E5) PL16/47

Any trains from the east side of Jarocin station (platform III) use a line on the opposite side of the marshalling yard and Depot south of the station fro the main line, but no current use as all Table 321 services in October 2016 are to/from Poznań Głowny via platforms I and II on the west side of Jarocin station and connecting line 826.

Sulechów (podg Czerwieńsk Wsch.) – Czerwieńsk – Przylep (podg Czerwieńsk Płd.)

[334, 355] (ERA74B1 not shown, E2 partially shown) PL16/48

Almost all trains between Zielona Góra and Sulechów (- Zbąszynek) now avoid Czerwieńsk by means of the south <=> east avoiding curve (podg Czerwieńsk Południe - podg Czerwieńsk Wschodnia) opened on 9 June 2013. The through trains listed below between Zielona Góra and Zbąszynek via Czerwieńsk are the only ones still using the line from the avoiding curve east junction to Czerwieńsk station, which crosses underneath the Zielona Góra line to the east of the two-sided Czerwieńsk station. The trains reverse in the south side platforms and use a significant connection to the Zielona Góra line at the east end of the station.

Piła - Piła Towarowa - podg Piła Północ

[340/365] (ERA74C3 not shown correctly, C4) PL16/49

There are two routes for tables 340 & 365 leaving the west end of Piła Głowny. The usual line 405 used by passenger trains veers to the south and then crosses the line towards Krzyż on a bridge. The separate normally freight-only line 999 on the north side passes though the freight yard and takes a ground level direct route to Piła Północ, the junction for the Walcz and Szczecinek routes. Only reachable to/from Piła's northerly platforms [4 and above] and used if another service is booked over the section from Piła Północ at the same time as both routes are single track. Increased use is suggested from the 2016 arrival/departure sheets.

Gorzów Wielkopolski

[334/345] (ERA74B2 not shown, D2) PL16/50

Each line uses separate parts of the station, passengers walking between them by subway. Any through trains to/from the Międzyrzecz line onto 345 use a lengthy connection of over 1 km west of the station. There have been no scheduled PKP services since 2010 but the June 2016 Table 334 PDF shows a Turkol Charter to/from the freight line destination of Wierbzno. Note the arrival and departure times are shown and the intervening period will involve a reversal so it is listed on the basis that passengers will be allowed to remain on board, however the Turkol special on 3 May must do the connection in service.

Szczecin Główny eastern approaches

[361] (ERA74A3, R1) PL16/53

There are two alternative routes from Szczecin Zdroje (p.odg. Regalica) to Szczecin Główny. The shorter northern route runs via Szczecin Port Centralny station into the northern end of Szczecin Główny, and the longer southern route via p.odg. Dziewoklicz and p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo into the southern end of Szczecin Główny. Most IC services and a few PR services take the southern route and may be identified by a '<' symbol against Szczecin Port Centralny.

Szczecin Główny western approaches

[368, 369] (ERA74A3 not shown correctly, R1) PL16/54

There are three possible routes from Szczecin Gumieńce to Szczecin Główny. From north to south these are: (a) a single track line via Szczecin Wzgórze Hetmańskie and Szczecin Pomorzany, (b) the usual single track direct line and (c) the double track southern loop via p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo - p.odg. Dziewoklicz - Szczecin Port Centralny. No service is allowed sufficient time for the alternatives in the October PDF's and no reports were received of those allowed up to 15 minutes in the June 2016 PDF's.

Szczecin Podjucy - Szczecin Zdroje

[366, plus 361] (ERA74A3, R1) PL16/55

Use of this curve by limited dated services as listed in the PDF footnotes, assumed to retain crew knowledge in case the substantial bridge over the River Odra is unavailable. In Summer 2016 ALL services between 13 - 24 June were diverted, then odd dates until October. Note these services may reverse at Szczecin Zdroje or Szczecin Dąbie. In Summer 2016 eight Woodstock specials were also clearly shown in table 361 to use this curve on dates between 14 - 18 July

Kołobrzeg Port

[off 375] (ERA74B4, B2) PL16/57

A normally freight-only branch which passes through the city streets to terminate on the Quayside adjacent to the Lighthouse. The annual Poznań Główny - Kołobrzeg "Pirat" steam excursion resumed running to the Port some years ago, joined from 2012 by a Diesel hauled excursion "Katamaran". The 2016 dates are 28/29 May and 19 June respectively with details on the Turkol website.

Rogoźno Wielkopolskie - Wągrowiec

[395] (ERA74C2, D4) PL16/58

A former freight-only line that reopened temporarily to passengers on 1/6/2011 to 28/2/12 [Wiki] when table 390 services between Wągrowiec and Poznań Wschód were diverted from the direct route due to engineering works. Turkol charters use this route on 27 February and 6 August 2016 plus also a 46km freight only line to Czarnków.

Iława

[400/405/500] (ERA75B3 not shown correctly, B8) PL16/59

There are two routes between Iława station and Działdowo, the Malbork – Warszawa main line diving under the Toruń – Olsztyn line from the north side, plus Line 968, a curve from the yard and south side platform. Trackwork means trains to/from Działdowo booked at platform 3 cannot reach the diveunder line so these must use line 968. There are two in the Station departure sheets commencing 21 June 2016.

SSuX PR 90623 Działdowo – 06:53 Smolniki - Iława
IC1521 Warszawa Zachodnia - 07:09 Działdowo – Olsztyn Główny
SSuX PR 90632 15:00 Iława - Działdowo

It should be noted that is possible for departures from any platform at Ilawa to reach Line 968 but the regular non-conflicting route for Malbork - Iława - Działdowo services is the diveunder. Additionally all Olsztyn - Iława - Malbork services use connections at the Olsztyn end of the station to cross to the north side platforms. Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

Prabuty - Kwidzyn

[415] (ERA75B3, B7) PL16/60

One train using this line appeared in the annual PDF's for table 400 but is assumed to have been cancelled by Turkol as it is not included in those issued relevant to when it was due to run. This 33km freight only line 218 had been used for limited diversions during 2014.

Toruń Główny – podg Nieszawka (Suchatówka)

[405] (ERA75A2, R3) PL16/61

There are two routes: the more northerly via Toruń Towarowy yard climbs over the Bydgoszcz line whereas the alternative passes through Toruń Kluczyki station. Trains calling at Toruń Kluczyki (all PR services) must use the southerly route. TLK services, which have a "<" marker against Toruń Kluczyki, are booked to take the northerly route but in practice may use either.

Bydgoszcz avoiding line 201

[420 430/a] (ERA? , R3) PL16/62

Two trains were booked this way on one night in September 2015, but no use indicated in 2016 PDF’s

Czersk - Bąk - Kościerzyna

[429] (ERA75A4, B6) PL16/63

This 42km line has an overnight passenger service in 2016

25 May – 31 August 2016 TLK 35261 Rzeszów Główny – 03:51 Czersk – Hel
26 May – 1 September 2016 TLK 53260 Hel – 00:29 Kościerzyna – Rzeszów Główny

Lipowa Tucholska - Bąk - Kościerzyna

[429] (ERA75A4, B6) PL16/63A

This route overlaps with PL16/63 between Bąk and Kościerzyna. The entry suggesting use of this direct line between Lipowa Tucholska and Bąk on 14 July 2016 has disappeared in PDF's issued on 17 June.

Tczew - Rokitki Tczewskie (podg Malinowo) via line 727

[426] (ERA75B4 not shown, R2) PL16/64

There are two alternative routes approaching Tczew from the Chojnice line: the double track main line, which runs on a lengthy embankment to fly over the Gdansk lines to the east side of Tczew station, and a single track at ground level (line 727) to the west side. All platforms can be reached by arrivals from line 727 so it is not possible to know what route they take but departures from platforms 1 & 2 must use line 727. Indicated use recommenced on 26 April 2015 and continues into 2016.

Szlachta

[429, 429a, 424] (ERA? , B6) PL16/65

Most but not all through Czerk – Wierzchuchin services now double run to Śliwice so use a connection onto table 429a at the south end of Szlachta station. Previously they all reversed at Szlachta and used a connection at the north end of the station.

Gdańsk Wrzeszcz

[442,443] (ERA75B5 not shown, R2 not shown) PL16/66

A flyover has been built as part of the reinstated junction for the new service to Gdańsk Port Lotniczy and Kartuzy which is used by the limited through services from Gdańsk Główny but also by many of the terminators. Check the platform sheets for Peron II arrivals and departures.

Gdynia Stocznia

[450/451 & 452] (ERA75B5 not shown, R2) PL16/67

The SKM local and main lines take separate routes with Gdynia Stocznia station on an elevated section flying over freight lines leading into the docks.

Gdynia Główny – Rumia via line 202

[450/451] (ERA75A5 not shown, R2) PL16/68

This is an alternative route, largely parallel to the normal passenger line 250, but using a diveunder between Gdynia Glówna and Gdynia Grabówek and a separate alignment for part of the route on the north side of the line between Gdynia Cisowa and Rumia Janowo. It seems to be taken mainly by seasonal trains to/from Hel and, whilst logically starting/finishing in the higher numbered platforms at Gdynia Glówna, use of crossovers to start from the lower numbered platforms has been observed. Diagrams of the relevant parts of the route are available here:

Żuławskiej Kolei Dojazdowej

[457] (ERA75B4, A7 not shown correctly) PL16/69

This system worked by the Pomorskie Towarzystwo Miłośników Kolei Żelaznych (PTMKŻ) is a preserved ex PKP narrow gauge line from Nowy Dwor Gdanski to Sztutowo and Prawy Brzeg Wisły.

Stegna Gdanska

This is a triangular station with platforms on all three sides. In the 2013 Timetable it was possible to cover all sides with a lengthy wait on one day, but since then there is no service on the south to east curve towards Sztutowo. Operating days in 2016 are around the May Day Bank Holidays and 25 June - 3 September as per the Timetable linked from the PTMKŻ website.

Sztutowo

If travelling to/from Sztutowo on either a loco hauled train or a railcar towing trailers it will reverse around a triangle on arrival or departure from Sztutowo as there is no run round loop.

Suwałki

[537] (ERA75B4 not shown correctly, B12) PL16/70

The southbound afternoon loco hauled Sestokai/Mockava to Warsaw service called at Suwałki for passengers to alight but then continued 0.5km into a headshunt to reverse its coaches onto others already waiting on another platform. To date only the through DMU Kaunas - Bialystok service has resumed north of Suwalki so this headshunt sees no current passenger use.

Wrzosów (p.odg. Stojadła) – p.odg. Kędzierak - Pilawa

[550/613] (ERA76A1, D10&E10) PL16/71

Part of a ring freight route round the east side of Warszawa, this north-to-south line provides a link between the Lublin and Terespol lines, and is used as the main route for fast trains between Warsawa Wschodnia and Pilawa due to capacity limitations on the single track line via Otwock. Trains are marked with a wavy line on table 550 at Otwock.

Dęblin – Stawy

[553] (ERA79A5 partly shown, E11) PL16/72

There are two passenger routes from Stawy, which connect the Łuków line to the north and south ends of Dęblin station, forming a balloon loop and only the line at the north end line is shown in the Quail map. The normal mode of operation is for trains from Łuków to Dęblin to arrive at Dęblin using the southern route, even if they are continuing south and need to reverse in order to do so. Trains from Dęblin to Łuków use the northern route.

Chełm - Włodawa

[558] (ERA79C4/C5, E13/F13) PL16/73

This otherwise freight only branch has a sponsored summer weekend only service in recent years. 2016 timings are listed in the PDF table 558 running SSuO between 25 June and 3 September.

(Koluszki –) Bedoń – Łódź Widzew or Łódź Olechów – Łódź Chojny (– Łódź Kaliska)

[601] (ERA78B5, R11) PL16/74

There are two routes between Bedoń and Łódź Chojny: a northerly route via Łódź Widzew and a more direct southerly route via Łódź Olechów. Services running via Łódź Olechów can be identified in the table 601 PDF by a footnote advising of a call at Łódź Olechów Wschód or a < marker against Łódź Widzew and a timing at Łódź Chojny and/or Łódź Kaliska.

Gałkówek – Żakowice Płd – p.odg. Zieleń – Koluszki

[601, 114] (ERA78C5, R11) PL16/76

The majority of services between Łodz and Koluszki run direct on the main line from Gałkówek via Żakowice station to the west side platforms at Koluszki. Trains via this alternative route call at Żakowice Południowe and use part of line 537 and 535 to cross over the Częstochowa main line to/from the east side platforms at Koluszki. They have been identified previously by a * against Żakowice, or from 1 September 2015 in a Timetable footnote or in the 12 June 2016 PDF's by entries in Table 114, but in the October 2016 PDF's this station is not mentioned anywhere. As the on-line Peron sheet is for the whole timetable year and shows no calls after 15 October 2015, any reports would be welcomed by the Compliers. The previous use in 2016 was by the following services:-

The following sections of line within Poland can be ridden only in the through (corridor) trains of neighbouring administrations:

  • (Hagenwerder [Germany] -) frontier - Ręcszyn - (- Krzewina Zgorzelecka -) Trzciniec Zgorzelecki - frontier (- Hirschfelde [Germany]) (36A2): DB table 220. The section between Ręcszyn and Trzciniec Zgorzelecki is traversed only by trains on DB table 220 (Zittau - Görlitz, presently operated by Connex/Lausitzbahn) as PKP trains on table 260 were withdrawn with the 2000/01 timetable.
  • (Zittau [Germany] -) frontier - frontier (- Hrádek nad Nisou [Czech Republic]) (36A2): ČD table 089. There are no stations in Poland on this line.
  • Głuchołazy - frontier (- Jindřichov ve Slezsku [Czech Republic]) (37A1): Through Krnov – Jesenik trains on ČD table 292 use PKP tracks in and out of Głuchołazy as there is no triangle here and the approximately 13km of PKP tracks east of Głuchołazy are only traversed by ČD services. From 10 December 2006 ČD services call to set down and pick up at Głuchołazy.
