This list is based on the timetable dated from 13 December 2020 – 11 December 2021 (Graphical timetable TRV T21) and the public timetables (available from resrobot.se during the validity of the graphical timetable) unless otherwise shown. It is recommended that the instructions in Sweden - General Information are followed for details on how to obtain relevant timetables. Standard abbreviations used are explained in General Information. document.
To find current traffic information, check your trip on a journey planner e.g. www.resrobot.se - Click "Reseplanerare" and click the British flag (top right hand corner). www.sj.se/enis easier to use, but does not contain Flixtrain , MTRX or Snälltåget.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA" refer to the European Railway Atlas Nordic Region, Regional Series 2016 or later, by M.G.Ball.
The non-electrified DMU-operated lines have more replacement bus operation than the electrified lines.  Check your departure station at Trafikverket before departure to ensure it is a train and not a bus. Stockholm C (Central) is the default. Type other stations at the very top of the page.

Only Vy night trains between Stockholm and Boden and beyond use the direct East to North chord (Vännäs avoiding line).
All trains calling at Vännäs use the South to East and those en route to and from the north also the South to North chord (the latter is the initial main line).

Main line trains use the new (1995) Grödinge line, while local services use the former main line between these points. Trains for the Eskilstuna line also use the Grödinge line, between Stockholm and Södertälje Syd.
If there is major infrastructure work between Gävle C and Umeå C, the night trains may be rerouted to use the old (now freight only) route between Bräcke and Vännäs.

<div id="MM_O"></div>Mora (Morastrand) – Oxberg
Whether ay train re-routed this route will use the newer direct line or the original alignment through Nyåker is decided by the CTC operator during the actual night.
(ERA-E 5B3-C3; ERA-R 8C4) SE21/3

This line has no regular passenger service but in recent years a special train has run between Mora and Oxberg in conjunction with a skiing event (see Vasaloppet or Snälltåget) on or near the last weekend in February. In 2020 Snälltåget (Transdev) operated a train on 21 February at 22:00 from Stockholm C to Oxberg. Note this train is open only to participants in this ladies-only skiing event. No train is to operate 2021, next time is planned for 25 February 2022.
The now best way is to do a test using the www.sj.se/en journey planner Vy Luleå/Narvik and SJ Umeå trains are visible here.</br>
1. Click Search Journey.</br>
2. Type Stockholm C in the from box and Vännäs in the to box and select your desired date.</br>
3. Click Search Journey again</br>
4. Click Filter.</br>
5. Tick Only non-stop journeys</br>
6. Scroll down and click Done.</br>
If you are able to see SJ and Vy trains with prices, they are bookable. You can easily click to select any of the close dates.</br>

Gävle Central – Gävle Järnvägsmuseet
Vy night trains do not normally call at Vännäs, they are routed to use the East to North chord at Vännäs (Vännäs avoiding line).</br>
(ERA-E 6A2, not shown; ERA-R 9B3, not shown) SE21/4
SJ night trains terminate at Umeå C, and are routed via Sundsvall C - Örnsköldsvik C and do not normally reach Vännäs.</br>

No planned infrastructure work, which necessitates the use of this line for passenger services, is currently known.
A short electrified branch provides access to the railway museum. Working involves reversal at Gävle C (or use of the freight only Gävle C avoiding line) for trains from the south, then a shunt move to/from the museum. When specials from Stockholm and Uppsala operate, normally on one or two weekends in the autumn, details should be available on the Museum website when known. Look for headline "Årgångståget". The date for reopening of the museum is currently not known, but can be delayed until 2022 or later.

Järna – Norrköping (Åby)
[80/81] (ERA-E 1A4 or 5A1 and 5C1; ERA-R 9A1-9B1) SE21/5

Trains between Stockholm and Norrköping with no booked stops between Södertälje Syd and Norrköping usually run via Katrineholm. This is faster than the shorter route through Nyköping and is also double track throughout.

<div id="GR_ST"></div>Grängesberg – Ställdalen (via Silverhöjden)
[53, 75] (ERA-E 5C2; ERA-R 9A2-9A3) SE21/6

The former TGOJ line, which parallels the normal ex-BJ line, is available as an extended passing loop. It still has CTC, but the maximum speed is reduced. It can be used to avoid delays when crossing another train, subject to punctual running of both trains. Routing may be altered for operational convenience. Trains in the graphical timetable which cannot be found in the public timetable have been excluded from this list.

Bollnäs (Ovansjö) – Bräcke (Moradal) (via Ångebyn)
[Old:20/42] (ERA-E 5C4; ERA-R 4A1) SE24/3

A freight line, which is a short-cut just west of Ånge bypassing Ånge and Ånge yard. It is normally used by trains not calling at Ånge, by freight and some Night trains.  Trains 67 and 68 are SJ, use sj.se journey planner others are Snälltåget, use Snälltåget website. Snälltåget trains are currently not visible in the SJ Journey planner or v/v. See also SE 24/5, SE 24/10, SE 24/11and SE 24/24.

It was previously used only by the SJ night trains between Göteborg C and Duved/Umeå C. These trains are now routed Storvik - Gävle C avoiding line - Gävle yard - Söderhamn instead.

This section of the main line allows direct running between Boden and the south. It is now only used by trains in timetable 35 calling at Vännäs, but not trains to/from Umeå terminating in or starting from Vännäs. However, it can also be used by a night train not calling at Umeå C, when rerouted due to infrastructure work.

On one Saturday early in May each normal year (2020 date 9 May was cancelled), Grängesbergsbanornas Järnvägsmuseum (GBBJ), now in co-operation with Föreningen Sörmlands Veteranjärnväg (FSVJ) can be expected to run a special veteran train shuttle service for a street fair at Oxelösund ("Oxelösund marknad"). Visit the www.gbbj.nu or www.fsvj.se websites, or Visit Oxelösund nearer the time for details. Note: Nyköping Södra is almost opposite the bus station.
Gävle Central – Gävle Järnvägsmuseet
In addition an EMU is expected to operate Oxelösund - Nyköping Södra a few dates not yet known, see FSVJ nearer the summer.
(ERA-E 6A2, not shown; ERA-R 9B3, not shown) SE24/7

In conjunction with this, some empty stock is moved from Grängesberg museum on the Friday and returns on the Sunday, using the following freight lines: Lindesberg (Frövi north jn.) – Valskog (Jädersbruk jn.), Mellösa (Flens övre jn.) – Nyköping – Oxelösund and route SE21/6. GBBJ have been prepared to carry passengers by prior arrangement - contact the Society well in advance, using [mailto:gbbj@gbbj.nu this e-mail address].
A short electrified branch provides access to the railway museum. Working involves reversal at Gävle C (or use of the Gävle C avoiding line, see also SE 24/6) for trains from the south, then a shunt move to/from the museum. When specials from Stockholm and Uppsala operate, normally on one or two weekends in the autumn, details should be available on the Museum website when known. Look for headline "Årgångståget". The date for reopening of the museum is currently not known, but work is now progressing and a summer 2024 re-opening is now shown at the Museum website.

Snälltåget (Transdev) operates public winter sport specials. Normally thesse trains are booked to operate via Stockholm. Exceptionally, three trains are planned (probably because of infrastructure work) to use the cut-off Snyten - Ängelsberg. See also SE 24/3, SE 24/5, 24/11 and SE 24/24. In addition this chord is also used by the rerouted trains between Borlänge C (and beyond) and Stockholm C when Avesta Krylbo - Sala is closed for infrastructure work.

A date for the re-opening of this spur is not known. The preliminary year for the completion of the West Link is 2026. In addition these winter sport (Vasaloppet) specials will not operate in 2021.

[Malmö C/Göteborg C –] Storvik – Ockelbo [– Duved/Umeå]
This chord is also used by the SJ Stockholm - Strömstad summer only train, at least until the Vänersborg railway bridge is opened early 2025 after comprehensive repaires. See also SE 24/20 immedialtely below.
(ERA 9A3-A4) SE21/17

SJ Night train Göteborg - Duved/Umeå and Snälltåget (Transdev) winter sport specials Malmö -Duved are both using the Storvik - Ockelbo cut-off. See SE 21/24 for additional information.
[Stockholm C –] Herrljunga C – Göteborg Sävenäs – Göteborg Marieholm – Trollhättan C [ – Öxnered avoiding line – Uddevalla C – Strömstad]
[Old:60,130](ERA-E 8A5; ERA-R 13C3) SE24/20
The summer-only train pair Stockholm - Strömstad can't use Herrljunga - Vänersborg - Uddevalla because of bridge replacement at Vänersborg, and not Göteborg - Stenungsund - Uddevalla because of tunnel and catenary refurbishment, both until different dates in 2025. Instead freight-only tracks east of Göteborg C are used.

[Malmö C –] Mölndal – Olskroken [– Mora]
[Old:20](ERA-E 8A5; ERA-R 13C1) SE24/21

The Göteborg C avoiding line is closed for infrastructure work, construction of Västlänken(a dual-track tunnel enabling trains from Helsingborg - Varberg and Borås lines to access a new sub-surface four-track station under the existing Göteborg C station and continue towards Trollhättan or Alingsås without reversing.
Snälltåget (Transdev) operates winter sport (Vasaloppet) specials which cannot use this spur, and are in spring 2024 routed via Göteborg C station, where the train calls and the locomotive runs round. When Snälltåget trains Stockholm C - Malmö C have been rerouted via Göteborg C (during infrastructure work on the normal route), it has also happened that the train has been routed to Göteborg Kville yard, and reversed into Göteborg C (no run-round necessary).
The link Olskroken - Mölndal is expected to be reinstated late 2024, the new planned date for the sub surface sstation is 2026 and for the entire West Link is now 2030.

Kilafors - Söderhamn, which lost its passenger service in 1971, and which has been closed some years for substantial upgrade to be able to reroute freight and ease the overload on Gävle - Sundsvall. In 1971 the old line and the old station were used in Söderhamn. A new West to North Söderhamn (West/new station) avoiding line has been built and is used by the night trains. No passenger service except night trains is planned. Exchange of sleepers occurs in Sundsvall during the night, giving both Stockholm and Göteborg direct connection both with Duved and Umeå and v v.

Introduction

To find current traffic information, check your trip on a journey planner e.g. www.resrobot.se - Click "Reseplanerare" and click the British flag (top right hand corner). www.sj.se/enis easier to use, but does not contain Flixtrain , MTRX or Snälltåget.

The non-electrified DMU-operated lines have more replacement bus operation than the electrified lines. Check your departure station at Trafikverket before departure to ensure it is a train and not a bus. Stockholm C (Central) is the default. Type other stations at the very top of the page.

This list is based on the timetable dated 10 December 2023 – 14 December 2024 (Graphical timetable TRV T24) See available jouney planners (above or under General Information) Standard abbreviations are explained here.

[Stockholm C –] Bräcke – Vännäs – Umeå C / Vindeln [– Boden – Luleå/Narvik]

[Old:40](ERA-E 5C5, 6AB5; ERA-R 4BC3,4AB2,4A1) SE24/2

If there is major infrastructure work between Gävle C and Umeå C, the night trains may be rerouted to use the old (now freight only) route between Bräcke and Vännäs.

Whether ay train re-routed this route will use the newer direct line or the original alignment through Nyåker is decided by the CTC operator during the actual night.

The now best way is to do a test using the www.sj.se/en journey planner Vy Luleå/Narvik and SJ Umeå trains are visible here.
1. Click Search Journey.
2. Type Stockholm C in the from box and Vännäs in the to box and select your desired date.
3. Click Search Journey again
4. Click Filter.
5. Tick Only non-stop journeys
6. Scroll down and click Done.

Vy night trains do not normally call at Vännäs, they are routed to use the East to North chord at Vännäs (Vännäs avoiding line).
SJ night trains terminate at Umeå C, and are routed via Sundsvall C - Örnsköldsvik C and do not normally reach Vännäs.
No planned infrastructure work, which necessitates the use of this line for passenger services, is currently known.

Gävle Central – Gävle Järnvägsmuseet

(ERA-E 6A2, not shown; ERA-R 9B3, not shown) SE24/7

A short electrified branch provides access to the railway museum. Working involves reversal at Gävle C (or use of the Gävle C avoiding line, see also SE 24/6) for trains from the south, then a shunt move to/from the museum. When specials from Stockholm and Uppsala operate, normally on one or two weekends in the autumn, details should be available on the Museum website when known. Look for headline "Årgångståget". The date for reopening of the museum is currently not known, but work is now progressing and a summer 2024 re-opening is now shown at the Museum website.

[Old:80/81] (ERA-E 1A4 or 5A1 and 5C1; ERA-R 9A1-9B1) SE24/16

Nyköping Södra/Jönåker/Stigtomta/Vrena – Oxelösund

(ERA-E 5C1; ERA-R 9B1) SE24/17

On one Saturday early in May each normal year. Provisional date for 2023 was 13 May, but the special trains were cancelled. Trafikverket could not provide timetables early enough for the societies to make all arrangements. Date for 2024 is not known at time of writing in the beginning of January.

Grängesbergsbanornas Järnvägsmuseum (GBBJ), now in co-operation with Föreningen Sörmlands Veteranjärnväg (FSVJ), can be expected to run a special veteran train shuttle service for a street fair at Oxelösund ("Oxelösund marknad"). Visit the www.gbbj.nu or www.fsvj.se websites, or Visit Oxelösund nearer the time for details. Note: Nyköping Södra is almost opposite the bus station.

In conjunction with this, some empty stock is usually moved from Grängesberg museum on the Friday and returns on the Sunday, using the following freight lines: Lindesberg (Frövi north jn.) – Valskog (Jädersbruk jn.), Mellösa (Flens övre jn.) – Nyköping – Oxelösund and the larger part of, but not the full route SE24/8. GBBJ have been prepared to carry passengers by prior arrangement - contact the Society well in advance, using the address: gbbj@gbbj.nu

Uddevalla – Öxnered avoiding line – Trollhättan [ – Göteborg C]

[Old:130] (ERA-E 5A1; ERA-R 12B5) SE24/19

Trains using the Öxnered avoiding line, Uddevalla - Öxnered West Jn - Öxnered South Jn - Trollhättan - Göteborg C. Trains in Västtrafik Timetable shown as calling at Trollhättan and Gamlestaden are using this chord. Timetable for later parts of the year will be included when known. If trains start from and terminate at Gamlestaden instead of Göteborg you are recommended to use other public transport (tram) between these stops. There is much infrastructure work ongoing in Göteborg. Uddevalla - Stenungsund is closed for infrastructure (tunnel and catenary) work until 2025. All trains direct between Uddevalla and Göteborg are routed via this chord until then.

This chord is also used by the SJ Stockholm - Strömstad summer only train, at least until the Vänersborg railway bridge is opened early 2025 after comprehensive repaires. See also SE 24/20 immedialtely below.

[Old:60,130](ERA-E 8A5; ERA-R 13C3) SE24/20 The summer-only train pair Stockholm - Strömstad can't use Herrljunga - Vänersborg - Uddevalla because of bridge replacement at Vänersborg, and not Göteborg - Stenungsund - Uddevalla because of tunnel and catenary refurbishment, both until different dates in 2025.
