Revision as of 18:13, 10 February 2017

Introduction

This list is based on the timetable dated from 11 December 2016 – 9 December 2017 (Graphical timetable TRV T17) and the public timetables (available from resrobot.se during the validity of the graphical timetable) unless otherwise shown. It is recommended that the instructions in Sweden - General Information are followed for details on how to obtain relevant timetables. Standard abbreviations used are explained in General Information. document.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA" refer to the European Railway Atlas Nordic Region, Regional Series 2016, by M.G.Ball.

Obscure services

Ånge – Bräcke (Moradal) (via Ångebyn)

[20/40/41/42/44] (ERA 4A1) SE17/1

Available as an alternative to the north line, which is single track between Ånge station and Moradal. When trains are scheduled to cross within 6/7 minutes of Ånge, one would use this route - subject to punctual running of both trains.

D{1} SX 7516 Sundsvall C – 21:36 Ånge – Östersund V

Notes: {1}: See public timetable 42 for dates and exceptions;

Stockholm Syd Flemingsberg – Järna (Järna Jn.)

[60/61/80/81/114/115] (ERA 9B2 or 11A1-11A2) SE17/2

Main line trains use the new (1995) Grödinge line, while local services use the former main line between these points. Trains for the Eskilstuna line also use the Grödinge line, between Stockholm and Södertälje Syd.

Mora (Morastrand) – Oxberg

(ERA 8C4) SE17/3

This line has no regular passenger service but in recent years a special train has run between Mora and Oxberg in conjunction with a skiing event (see Vasaloppet or Snälltaget) on or near the last weekend in February. In 2017 Snälltåget (Transdev) operates a train 24 February at 22.00 from Stockholm C to Oxberg. But beware - this day of all skiing events is for ladies only.

Gävle Central – Gävle Sveriges Järnvägsmuseum

(ERA 9B3, not shown) SE17/4

A short electrified branch provides access to the railway museum. Working involves reversal at Gävle C (or use of the freight only Gävle C avoiding line) for trains from the south, then a shunt move to/from the museum. When specials from Stockholm and Uppsala operate, normally on one or two weekends in the autumn, details should be available on the Museum website when known. Look for headline "Årgångståget". The museum will be closed due to rebuilding for approxiamtely 18 months from 10 September 2017.

Järna – Norrköping (Åby)

[80/81] (ERA 9A1-9B1) SE17/5

Trains between Stockholm and Norrköping with no booked stops between Södertälje Syd and Norrköping usually run via Katrineholm. This is faster than the shorter route through Nyköping and is also double track throughout.

Grängesberg – Ställdalen (via Silverhöjden)

[53, 75] (ERA 9A2-9A3) SE17/6

The former TGOJ line, which parallels the normal ex-BJ line, is available as an extended passing loop. It still has CTC, but the maximum speed is reduced. It can be used to avoid delays when crossing another train, subject to punctual running of both trains. Routing may be altered for operational convenience.

A closer study of the technical train numbers used in the graphical timetable may be useful

Malmö C – (Lockarp North Jn – Lockarp South Jn) – [Trelleborg C/Trelleborg Train Ferry Berth]

[102] (ERA 12C2) SE17/7

Lockarp North Jn and South Jn is traversed by the following local service,

FSX 11787 Kävlinge – 23:27 Malmö C– Trelleborg C
FSX 11788 Trelleborg C – 22:49 V Ingelstad – Malmö C/Kävlinge

and this is also used by the the night trains to/from Berlin en route to the Trelleborg Train Ferry Berth. The Snälltåget website advises services will depart Malmö C on 12 April, 25 May and M/Th/SO between 26 June - 12 August and from Berlin on 16 April, 28 May and W/F/SuO between 28 June and 13 August 2017. A recommendaton is to view the Swedish language page as well, in case the English language page is not complete. Note in 2016 that the coaches were shunted on and off the ferry by a road/rail tractor and not a locomotive.....

All these trains use the terminal section of Malmö C station, and are currently - together with trains listed under SE 17/ the only trains between Malmö C an Lockarp North Jn.

Vännäs - Umeå (including north and south chords at Vännäs)

[35,40] (ERA 4B3-4C3) SE17/8

The north chord is used by night trains between Boden and the south seen in public timetable 40 calling at Umeå C, and trains not calling at Vännäs in table 35. Table 35 trains calling at Vännäs use the south chord.

Vännäs – Vindeln (Vännäs north Jn)

[35] (ERA2 4B3) SE17/9

This section of the main line allows direct running between Boden and the south. It is now only used by trains in timetable 35 calling at Vännäs.

Nyköping Södra – Oxelösund

(ERA 9B1) SE17/10

On one Saturday early in May each year (2017 date not yet known), Grängesbergsbanornas Järnvägsmuseum (GBBJ), now in co-operation with Föreningen Sörmlands Veteranjärnväg (FSVJ) can be expected to run a special veteran train shuttle service for a street fair at Oxelösund ("Oxelösund marknad"). Visit website www.gbbj.nu or www.fsvj.se nearer the time for details. Note: Nyköping Södra is almost opposite the bus station.

In conjunction with this, the empty stock is moved from Grängesberg museum on the Friday and returns on the Sunday, using the following freight lines: Lindesberg (Frövi north jn.) – Valskog (Jädersbruk jn.), Mellösa (Flens övre jn.) – Nyköping – Oxelösund and route SE17/6. GBBJ have been prepared to carry passengers by prior arrangement - contact the Society well in advance, using this e-mail address.

Hallsberg – Hallsberg Yard – Skymossen jn (– Motala – Mjölby)

[53] (ERA 9A1) SE17/12

All passenger trains are booked to use this eastern route except the following, which is booked to use the western route via the yard:

D{1} SSuX 8166 Mjölby – 06:15 Motala – Örebro C

Note: {1}: See public timetable 53 for information on operating dates and exceptions.

Degerfors (Laxå North Jn) – Laxå / Hallsberg

[70,78] (ERA 8C1) SE17/13

Trains listed in public timetable 70 use the north to east Laxå avoiding line. Trains listed in public timetable 78 use the north to west spur and call at Laxå station.

Malmö Area

[107,108] (ERA 12C2 or 13B2-13C2) SE17/14

Clarification of track usage in the Malmö Area:

  • Malmö C – Ystad trains operate Malmö C – Hyllie – Svågertorp – Lockarp West Jn – Lockarp East Jn – Ystad, except trains (one train in each direction FSX) listed in table 107 not to call between Malmö C and Oxie. These trains are routed Lockarp East Jn – Lockarp North Jn – Malmö C to facilitate single line working between Malmö C and Hyllie for scheduled maintenance.
D{1} FSX 1580 Simrishamn – 23:05 Oxie – Helsingborg C
FSX 1581 Helsingborg C – 23:43 Malmö C – Ystad
  • Malmö C – Trelleborg trains Malmö C – Fosieby – Lockarp North Jn – Lockarp South Jn – Trelleborg (see SE17/7 above - if there are any trains at all).
  • København H – Ystad trains (Swedish timetable 103) operate Lernacken – Svågertorp – Lockarp West Jn – Lockarp East Jn – Ystad. No other scheduled passenger trains use Lernacken – Svågertorp. This leaves Svågertorp (Lockarp West) – Fosieby (Lockarp North) without passenger traffic until the "Malmö circle” starts, when some trains currently terminating at Hyllie would continue via this curve and restore more regular passenger service to the line via Östervärn to/from the terminal section of Malmö C. The date is not yet confirmed, as at least one new station close to the Rosengård area is to be built. However, if an SJ X2000 bound for København H arrives at the terminal section of Malmö C in reverse order, it will most likely be routed via Fosieby – Svågertorp, to be the right way round when arriving at København H.
  • Lockarp West Jn – Lockarp South Jn is now used for commuter trains to and from Trelleborg.

Uddevalla – Öxnered avoiding line – Trollhättan – Göteborg C

[130] (ERA 12B5) SE17/15 Trains using the Öxnered avoiding line, Uddevalla - Öxnered West Jn - Öxnered South Jn - Trollhättan - Göteborg C. Trains in public timetable 130 shown without any intermediate calls between Uddevalla and Göteborg are using this chord and instead calling at Trollhättan and Älvängen.

(ERA 9B2 not shown) SE17/16

This is a short extension of the 600mm gauge tourist line from the main station in Mariefred to the jetty used by the steamship from Stockholm. On certain days one train continues to and starts from Mariefreds Ångbåtsstation.
