Introduction

These entries are based on the timetable from 15 December 2019 to 12 December 2020. However, it should be noted it is completely reissued about four times per year with "adjustments" due on 15 March, 14 June, 30 August and 18 October 2020. In addition, there are frequent amendments within timetable periods.

Obscure services: Lines with regular use

Września avoiding line Gutowo Wlkp. (p.odg. Sokołowo Wrzesińskie) – Podstolice (Pd box)

This east <=> west main line avoiding Września station is used by trains on table 300 shown as not calling at Września.

Former Table 315: Częstochowa Aniołow/Herby Nowe – Zduńska Wola Karsznice – Inowrocław/Bydgoszcz

All of this 250 km long north – south freight only route (line 131) is scheduled for limited use in 2020 as are a number of curves/connecting lines. All used EGTRE entries for line 131 [except at Herby Nowe, see PL20/148] have been grouped together from south to north. Any curves etc seen use in recent years but with none in 2020 are at the foot of this page in "Lines used on an occasional basis".

Note the overnight services using this line are NOT shown in the 315 Inowrocław - Kutno table and all entries timings are given from the last point before travel on any part of line 131.

Herby Nowe – Chorzew Siemkowice – Zduńska Wola Karznice – Ponętów – Lipie Gory – Inowrocław Rabinek

A pair of summer only Przemyśl Główny - Kołobrzeg overnights were shown in the December 2019 PDFs as running this way but were later re-routed to call at Częstochowa Stradom therefore no scheduled use in 2020. The last booked use of this 48.3km line was in 2016 by a one day only pair of Turkol operated pilgrimage specials. Note that from the grade separated junction at podg Wyczerpy north of Częstochowa the lines remain apart and on significantly different vertical alignments for 3 km as far as Rząsawa.

This curve links line 131 [315] with the main line west to Gniezno. The frequent diversions whilst parts of the Poznań to Warszawa main line (T300) were being worked on have ended. However, all year use remains although the trains do not appear in table 300. Note the trains listed here also use PL20/309 and PL20/310.

Inowrocław Rabinek – Inowrocław (Inowrocław Towawory) via Line 742 OR Part Line 131

Note there are two routes between line 131 and Inowrocław station. The usual route is the ground level line 742 to/from the south side of 405 with an alternative of continuing on line 131 onto the Inowrocław avoiding line flying over the Poznań main line, and the connection to/from podg Mimowolo and Inowrocław Towawory.

Map view shows all four summer 2020 services booked via line 742. In previous years a March 2018 traveller advised services calling at Inowrocław but not at Inowrocław Rabinek used the alternative and Map view in the Journey planner correctly showed its Line 131 routing.

Jarocin

[321] (ERA176B2 not shown, E5) PL20/314

Jarocin is a split station with a sizable yard south of the platforms. All services on the reinstated service to Gniezno normally terminate or start from Peron 3 on the east side. Addionally:-

a. There is one through Gniezno - Jarocin - Krotoszyn pair which are the only services using the 1.6 km link south from the east side Peron 3 running on the east side of the yard, all other Krotoszyn services are to/from Poznań using connecting line 826 to/from the west side Perons 1 & 2. They are KW77424 from Gniezno arriving Jarocin 11:23 and KW77461 ex Krotoszyn arriving Jarocin 16:03

b. there is a connecting line 983 from the north end of west side Perons 1 & 2 to reach T321 towards Gniezno which for an unknown period in 2019 was used by one service but none are shown on the Peron sheets for 2020. From west side Peron 3 to line 983 junction with 321 is about 600 m.

(Domanin -) p.odg. Hanulin – Kępno (low level) (– Wielun)

Kępno is a two level station. The Poznań - Ostrów - Kluczbork line has high level platforms at right angles to those of the low level Herby Nowe line. There are two north-to-east curves between the two lines and for some years all services to/from Ostrów Wielkopolski starting or terminating at Kępno have used the 1.8km outside curve (Line 812) to/from the low level platforms. These can be found in the station platform arrival/departure sheets using Peron II or the table 320 timetable PDF shows Kępno separately in italics at the top or bottom of the table (depending on direction) for starting or terminating trains. The inside curve bypasses all platforms and is an entry in Lines used on an occasional basis.

(Sulechów-) podg Czerwieńsk Wsch. – Czerwieńsk – podg Czerwieńsk Płd. (-Przylep)

Almost all trains between Zielona Góra and Sulechów (- Zbąszynek) avoid Czerwieńsk by the south <=> east avoiding curve (podg Czerwieńsk Południe - podg Czerwieńsk Wschodnia) opened on 9 June 2013. The following are the only services still using the old line from the avoiding curve east junction to Czerwieńsk station which crosses underneath the Zielona Góra line to the south side of the two-sided Czerwieńsk station. Additionally these services also use a significant connection to/from the Zielona Góra line at the east end of Czerwieńsk station. An extra pair is scheduled in 2020.

Note these services are suspended from 16 March until 30 August 2020 as the line through Sulechów is closed for engineering work.

Krotoszyn avoiding line (podg Osusz - Durzyn)

This 5.4km by-pass was used between 7 - 11th September 2020 by 5 pairs daily

Rzepin: Connection from Frankfurt (Oder) to Zielona Góra line

Rzepin is a two sided station with Frankfurt (Oder) to Poznań services using the north platforms and those on the south side by Szczecin to Zielona Góra services. There are connections at each end of the station and the one at the west end between the Frankfurt (Oder) and Zielona Góra side platforms is a 0.5km line through freight yards and is used by DB operated services between Frankfurt(Oder) and Zielona Góra Główna, plus since December 2018 by the Berlin - Wein Hbf Nightjet. Details are clearly shown in tables 300 and 355.

The smaller east end connection has been used since 2018 by TLK's between Poznań and Szczecin as listed in Table 300.

Żagań - line 389 - Jankowa Żagańska [- Węgliniec]

All Żary - Węgliniec services and vv were diverted via Żagań [reverse] between 4 - 26 September 2020. From December 2020 there is a year round train pair which uses this line.

Szczecin Główny eastern approaches

[361] (ERA170B4, R1) PL21/318

There are two alternative routes from Szczecin Zdroje (p.odg. Regalica) to Szczecin Główny. The shorter northern route runs via Szczecin Port Centralny station into the northern end of Szczecin Główny, and the longer southern route via p.odg. Dziewoklicz and p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo into the southern end of Szczecin Główny. Services taking the southern route may be identified by a '<' symbol against Szczecin Port Centralny.

Szczecin Podjuchy - Szczecin Zdroje

[366, plus 361/370] (ERA170B4, R1) PL21/319

Use of this line 428 resumed in Summer 2020 by one overnight not calling at Szczecin Główny. Used in previous years by limited local services shown in timetable on odd days diverted to avoid a drawbridge on the usual passenger line to/from Szczecin Główny. There are no services in the 2020-2021 timetable.

Szczecin Główny western approaches

[368, 369] (ERA170B4, R1) PL20/320

There are three possible routes between Szczecin Gumieńce and Szczecin Główny. From north to south these are:

  • a single track line via Szczecin Wzgórze Hetmańskie and Szczecin Pomorzany
  • the single track direct line, which is the one normally used
  • the double track southern loop via p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo - p.odg. Dziewoklicz - Szczecin Port Centralny.

There were diversions in 2017 via Szczecin Wzgórze Hetmańskie, none in 2018 and some via an unspecified route (with allowances up to 14 minutes) on 20/21 & 24 June - 7 July 2019. None are scheduled in 2020.

Goleniów - Mosty direct

Services between Szczecin and Kołobrzeg via the direct east - west side of the podg Mosty triangle, not serving Szczecin Airport, are indicated in the timetable by a "<" marker against Port Lotniczy Szczecin Goleniów.

Obscure services: Lines used on an occasional basis

Poznań Franowo and area

Poznań Franowo is a large marshalling yard and depot on the south freight ring around Poznań and the lines through the yard area provide an alternative to passing through Poznań Główny station. Use is normally because:-

  • Trains to/from the north wishing to avoid a reversal at Poznań Główny traverse through Poznań Franowo to/from the Warszawa and Inowrocław lines.
  • the lines from Poznań Główny to Swarzędz or Kobylnica are closed due to engineering work.
  • By Turkol steam excursions from Poznań Główny. Different options exist, but the most usual are ‘short’ circulars via Franowo and Poznań Wschód or ‘long’ circulars via Franowo and the northern freight ring to Kiekrz where they reverse. See Turkol
  • By Polish Woodstock specials to the festival site in Kostrzyn from the north and east and v.v. not calling at Poznań Główny

Within the Franowo area any Turkol anticlockwise ‘long’ circuit services can take different routes, either Line 352 on the north side of the yard, or lines 823/824, a south side route from p.odg Pokrzywno and a flyover to p.odg Stary Młyn. Line 352 on the north side runs via platforms used by staff trains prior to their withdrawal in approx December 2006 and all westbound or clockwise Turkol charters must take this route.

Poznań Gorczyn – Line 801 - Poznań Dębina - [Poznań Starołęka]

In use on one night in 2020, see PL20/313B. Previously used by Woodstock specials towards Jarocin in 2017 and 2018 on which special tickets are required. Woodstock specials may also run via other combinations through Franowo yard. See next entries.

Poznań Krzesiny - Poznań Franowo - podg Zieliniec - Poznań northern ring to Poznań Piatkowo - line 803 - podg Suchy Las - Zlotniki

See PL20/313B for scheduled use in 2020. A Summer only pair were listed for 2019 but were cancelled before ever running.

Former Table 315

Częstochowa Aniołow/Herby Stare - Zduńska Wola Karsznice - Inowrocław/Bydgoszcz

The whole of this 250 km long north – south line (line 131) no longer has a scheduled passenger service, but its complete length is again used by seasonal trains to the Baltic coast in 2020. As with those in use in 2020, these EGTRE entries with occasional use are grouped together from south to north.

Zduńska Wola Karsznice - Line 543 [Zduńska Wola South to East curve] - p.odg Gajewniki [- Pabianice]

This curve was used by a few diverted PR services between 21 January - 9 March 2019. There is short term use in 2021 by the following train.

Ponętów – Barlogi (– Poznań )

This curve to/from 315 was used by a pair of IC's from 1 October - 14 December 2019. From November 2020 it was used by the same train pair as PL20/307 and this continues in the 2020-2021 timetable.

Inowrocław avoiding line: Inowrocław Rabinek – Line 741 – Jaksice (– Bydgoszcz Gł)

This line links 315 with 430 towards Bydgoszcz bypassing Inowrocław to the west. Last scheduled use in summer 2015.

Kępno station avoiding curve: Domanin (p.odg. Hanulin) – Wieruszow (podg Kępno Kp1)

This north to east inside curve avoiding all platforms has no scheduled use in 2021. Last used between 5 - 19 November 2018. Click on the thumbnail for a map .

Gorzów Wielkopolski

[334/345] (ERA175B4 not shown, D2) PL20/357

No use shown in the 2020 Peron sheets. The station is split by route with any trains to/from the Międzyrzecz line platforms onto/off the Kostrzyn line (345) using a lengthy connection of over 1 km to the west. Regular use ended during 2019 as all services to/from Kostrzyn were using this connection due to an engineering work closure of the line between Gorzów Wielkopolski Wschodni and the main station.

Piła - Piła Towarowa - podg Piła Północ

[340/365] (ERA176A5, C4) PL20/358

This is an alternative 2.3km route via the Goods Yard and connecting line 999 for services to/from the Walcz or Szczecinek lines.

If such services are booked to arrive or depart from Piła Glowna Peron V or VI they must use line 999 but note it can also be used in either direction to/from Peron I to IV to avoid a conflict on the single track section of the main line to podg Piła Północ. Anyone wishing to search for this possibility should use the map view facility after a search in the Journey Planner by clicking on the three vertical lines on the right hand side above Connection Details and select “Show this connection on a map”. Please notify the Compilers of the route taken by the listed services or any non Peron V or VI services found using line 999. The line was used in June and September 2020 for the few days the Kostryzn - Gdynia TLK was diverted via Szczecinek.

Rzepin avoiding line: Jerzmanice Lubuskie – Drzeńsko (podg. Drzeńsko)

No service in 2021. Last use was up to 2 September 2018.

Szczecin Dąbie avoider

No Scheduled use in 2021. It is believed the southbound returning Turkol annual special “Katamaran” from Kołobrzeg uses this curve but with Covid-19 it did not run in 2020. It definitely used this curve on 25 June 2017.

A 1km freight-only branch which passes through the city streets to terminate on the quayside adjacent to the lighthouse. The annual Poznań Główny - Kołobrzeg "Pirat" steam excursion resumed running to the Port some years ago, joined from 2012 by a separate Diesel hauled excursion "Katamaran". The "Pirat" was scheduled for 30 May 2020 but cancelled due to Covid-19. Any 2021 dates will appear on the Turkol website.
