Language
The official language is German. Most citizens speak a dialect that is highly divergent from Standard German but closely related to those dialects spoken in the neighbouring regions of Switzerland and Austria. However, the resident population is about one third foreign-born - primarily German speakers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland but also non-German speaking Swiss, Italians, and Turks.
