Introduction

This list is based on the timetable dated from 14 June to 12 December 2009, unless otherwise shown. The table numbers given are those from the comprehensive transport timetable Rutebok for Norge; some are also used without the prefix "21-(0)" in NSB's Regiontog and Lokaltog timetable booklets. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

Obscure services

Oslo S – Lillestrom (via Romeriksporten Tunnel)

Trains running non-stop between Oslo S and Lillestrom or Oslo Lufthavn Gardermoen run via the Romeriksporten Tunnel but trains calling intermediately between Oslo S and Lillestrom use the Hovedbanen (old main line).

Lillestrom – Oslo Lufthavn Gardermoen (Jessheim Syd)

Trains running non-stop between Lillestrom and Oslo Lufthavn Gardermoen run via the Gardermobanen but trains calling intermediately between Lillestrom and Kløfta use the Hovedbanen (old main line). Trains calling intermediately between Lillestrom and Kløfta and then serving Oslo Lufthavn Gardermoen (table 21-450) use a connecting chord between the two lines at Jessheim Syd (northbound) or a flat crossing immediately north of Kløfta station (southbound).

Roa – Hønefoss

This alternative route for Oslo - Bergen line trains had been used by weekend relief trains until June 2006 but now has no regular service. However, is used (as it was between June and August 2009 and is again from June to 8 August 2010) as a diversionary route when engineering work blocks the normal route. This will become less frequent again once the work between Lysaker and Sandvika (see Norway - Recent and future changes) is completed in 2011.

Sandvika – Asker

A 9.5 km long direct line opened between Sandvika and Asker in August 2005 and is used by fast trains between Oslo and Drammen (table 21-041). Suburban trains, calling at stations between Sandvika and Asker, continue to use the old main line.

Lerkendal – Leangen

[21-071] (5A2) NO09/6

This route, part of the line avoiding Trondheim to the south, provides an alternative route for freight trains between Trondheim and the Bodø and Storlien lines. The western end, connecting to the Trondheim - Oslo main line, is used by the SSuX hourly Lerkendal - Trondheim S - Steinkjer local service but there is no booked passenger service over the north-eastern end (note: despite extended journey times, trains from Bodø to Trondheim S use the normal route).

Katterat by-pass line

In Norway but served only by Swedish [SJ + Veolia] operated trains to and from Narvik, a tunnel by-pass avoiding the curved original line via Katerrat station has been opened in 2002. All trains except the following pair are booked to call at Katterat, so these may use this alternative subject to regulation by the Narvik signalling centre. Further information would be welcomed.

Other sparse services

The following lines have few trains (relative to service levels generally) – fewer than three trains each way, on at least three days a week - or do not run every day:

31-102 Hell - Storlien (Sweden) {check Swedish timetables, table 42}
31-103 Narvik - Kiruna (Sweden) {check Swedish timetables, table 30}

Deletions since previous edition

NO09/1: Hamar – Norsk Jernbanemuseum: this service no longer seems to operate.
