Revision as of 21:12, 20 February 2020

Introduction

This list has been updated to the timetable dated from 15 December 2019 to 12 December 2020.

Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information. The MAV timetable contains a number of non-standard notes; for details see General_Information - Additional Notes on reading the Timetable.

Obscure services

In the heading to each entry, the map reference for the line in the European Railway Atlas 2016 published by M.G. Ball is shown.

Almásfüzitő avoiding line: Tata – Almásfüzitő felső

[1] (ERA 207B3) HU20/1

Almásfüzitő station is on a loop separated from the main line by some sidings. The avoiding line is used by trains not calling at Almásfüzitő, although no wavy line is shown in the table indicating this.

Celldőmőlk avoiding line: Külsővat (Vinár elágazás) – Boba (Celldömölk-Rendezö)

[10, 25] (ERA 206C1) HU20/2

This east <=> south curve avoiding Celldőmőlk was used by one summer dated train pair in 2018-2019. There are no trains in the current timetable.

Boba avoiding line: Kemenespálfa (Jánosháza elágazás) – Kerta (Kerta elágazás)

[20, 25] (ERA 206C1) HU20/3

This south <=> east curve avoiding Boba has had a massive increase in services this year. Trains from Budapest Deli to Zalaegerszeg leave every two hours from 07:00 to 19:00 Trains from Zalaegerszeg to Budapest Deli leave every two hours from 05:49 to 19:49

Érd felső (Érd elágazás) – Tárnok

[30a] (ERA 214B1) HU20/4

This link between the Székesfehérvár and Sárbogárd lines provides an alternative to the Budapest - Székesfehérvár line via Erd alsó. Doubling of the latter route, completed in September 2013, has relieved the pathing pressures previously experienced, nevertheless this link is still used by an hourly local service between Kőbánya-Kispest and Székesfehérvár. No other trains appear to be booked via this route (have a | marking at Érd felső). It should be noted that punctuality can affect the route taken by non-stop trains.

Kőbánya felső - Rákos (via low level tracks)

[30, 80a] (ERA 214A2) HU20/5

This route from the south side of Kőbánya felső station to the north side of Rákos station via the low level lines was used in 2015/16 by a summer dated train pair between Miskolc and the Lake Balaton area. The same train pair has run in subsequent years, but without calling at Kőbánya felső, so it is not clear whether the train still takes this route. Confirmation of the route would be welcomed by the compilers

D Note 1 15607 Miskolc Tiszai - 08:47 Gödöllő - Keszthely
D Note 1 15606 Keszthely - 18:20 Budapest Kelenföld – Miskolc Tiszai

Note 1: These trains are omitted from table 30, but timings are shown in table 80a at Gödöllő. Full timings at all calling points are available on the elvira.mav-start.hu journey planner. The Budapest Kelenföld time has been taken from there.

Budapest-Ferencváros - Kőbánya felső

[30, 80a] (ERA 214A1) HU20/6

This east - west route avoiding Budapest Keleti is used by one summer dated train pair between Miskolc and the Lake Balaton area.

Note 1: These trains are omitted from table 30, but timings are shown in table 80a at Gödöllő. Full timings at all calling points are available on the elvira.mav-start.hu journey planner. The Budapest Kelenföld time has been taken from there.

Dombóvár avoiding line: Dombóvár alsó – Kaposszekcsős (Dombóvár elágazás)

[40, 41] (ERA 212B3) HU20/7

This west <=> south curve is used by trains between Kaposvár and Pécs which do not call at Dombóvár. The platforms at Dombóvár alsó are on the curve so trains which start/terminate/reverse here do not connect with the line towards Kaposvár.

Eger-Rendező: Eger-Rendező elágazás – Eger-Rendező – Eger

[87a] (ERA 208C3) HU20/11

The single line approaching Eger from the south splits to serve a substantial goods yard [Rendező] which potentially provides alternative bi-directional routes for arrivals and departures. The direct route is approximately 2.4km and the route via Eger-Rendező is a little over 2.5km. Click on the thumbnail for a full size diagram.

Trains running direct between Eger and Maklár take 9 minutes, but if diverted via Eger Rendező they are allowed 12 minutes. The 07:02 from Eger was confirmed in May 2019 as running via Eger Rendező.

5509 04:35 Eger – Budapest Keleti
547 07:02 Eger - Budapest-Keleti

Zalaegerszeg avoiding line: Zalaegerszeg-Ola (Zalaszentiván elágazás) – Zalaegerszeg-Ola (Andráshida elágazás)

[25] (ERA 97A1) HU20/12

This east <=> west curve avoiding Zalaegerszeg was used by the Citadella Budapest - Deli service while engineering work took place between Veszprém and Ajka in summer 2018. No service in 2020.

Note that whilst the western end of the avoiding line is at Zalaegerszeg-Ola, the station has one platform face for the Zalaegerszeg route and the other platform face for the avoiding line and the physical junction is west of the station.
