[IC 3.1, INT 9] (ERA78C4, F9) PL14/5

This north-to-west curve avoiding Kielce links the Radom and Częstochowa lines. It is used only by the "Vltava" sleeping car train between Moskva and Praha. Although the timetables show stops at Terespol, so that it appears that an internal Polish journey between Katowice and Terespol is possible in a sleeping car, the Inter City journey planner indicates that only journeys to and from Brest/Brześć and locations further east are permitted.

D TWFO EN21/404 Moskva Belorusskaja - 20:15 Brest Central - 21N13 Terespol - Praha hl.n.

[111, 550] (ERA79A5, E11) PL14/8

This west-to-south curve avoiding Dęblin is used by direct services between Radom and Lublin. They appear in table 111 with a '<' symbol against Dęblin.

Gałkówek – Mikołajów

[113] (ERA78B5-C5, E8, R11) PL14/9

There are two possible routes between Łódź and Tomaszów Mazowiecki avoiding Koluszki - the more southerly direct from Gałkówek via Żakowice Płd. to Mikołajów and the more northerly via a less likely alternative from Żakowice Płd. via Słotwiny. They are currently used by trains between Łódź and Krakow via Tomaszów Mazowiecki. It is not possible to determine from the timetable which of the two above routes a train will use. The compilers would welcome reports of any observations.

TLK73105 Poznań Gł.- 08:45 Łódź Kaliska - Kraków Głowny
TLK83107 Szczecin Gł. - 20:10 Łódź Kaliska - Kraków Głowny

(Kielce –) Sitkówka Nowiny – Włoszczowice – Staszów – Chmielów k. Tarnobrzega (– Tarnobrzeg)

[116, 126] (ERA78C3-4/79A3, F9, G9-10), PL14/10

This 105 km freight line reopened to passengers in December 2012 after many years with no service, with one weekend train pair calling at Staszów. This ceased on 1 September 2013 but it is thought it may resume some time in 2014.

Stalowa Wola Rozwadów Towarowy – Pilchów

[116, 555] (ERA78C5, G11) PL14/11

This reinstated curve (line 565) is used by direct services between Lublin and Tarnobrzeg (- Rzeszow). They can be identified by a calling time at Pilchów and the presence of the '<' symbol against Stalowa Wola Rozwadów.

Kraków northern loop line: Kraków Batowice – Kraków Nowa Huta – Podłęże

[120] (ERA78C3, R15) PL14/12

The workers' service to the steel works complex at Nowa Huta is believed to be still running. The times below are taken from the 2008 working timetable period. It should be noted that the evening and weekend services are worked by a track maintenance draisine with very limited capacity.

SSuX 9930/1 06:06 Kraków Plaszów - 06:17 Kraków Główny - 06:43 Kraków Nowa Huta - 07:09 Podłęże - 07:38 Kraków Główny (EN57) N

9944 18:44 Kraków Główny - 19:12 Kraków Nowa Huta – ??:?? Podłęże - 20:00 Kraków Główny (MS29) N

The compilers would welcome any information on the running of these services.

(Przemyśl –) Hurko – Medyka

[122] (ERA79B2 not shown, H12) PL14/13

The broad and standard gauge lines between these points follow separate routes. The internal PKP standard gauge service was withdrawn on 31 March 2004, and Ukrainian Railways broad gauge use ceased at the December 2012 Timetable change. Internal PKP Staff trains may continue on the standard gauge as there were non-timetabled halts serving large transhipment yards. However, with effect from the December 2012 timetable change, the only remaining passenger use is of the standard gauge route by the Kraków – Kiev service utilising the gauge change facilities at Mostiska 2 in Ukraine.

Katowice – flyover departure line – Katowice Brynów (p.odg. Brynów)

[146, 151] (ERA77B2 not shown, R17) PL14/14

Westbound departures from Katowice platforms 1-4 towards Katowice Ligota can run either via the main line (line 139) or via a flyover (line 656) over the main line to Gliwice. From observation, all trains departing from platform 1 at Katowice appear to use this route.

Czechowice Dziedzice avoiding line: Goczałkowice Zdrój (p.odg. Most Wisła) – Zabrzeg (p.odg. Ochodza)

[146, 147] (ERA78B2, H7) PL14/15

The north-to-west curve avoiding Czechowice Dziedzice is used by all trains in table 146 and also trains to and from Katowice shown in table 147 with a '<' symbol against Czechowice Dziedzice. The latter are mostly international trains.

Nędza Wieś – Kuźnia Raciborska (p.odg. Turze)

[154] (ERA78A3, G6) PL14/16

This east-to-north chord avoiding Nędza station is used by trains running direct between Rybnik and Kędzierzyn Koźle. They appear only in table 154, which covers services east of Rybnik, as trains between Bielsko-Biała and Wrocław.

D MSO IR46140/46141 Bielsko-Biała Główna - 07:34 Rybnik - Wrocław Główny
D SuO IR46142/46143 Bielsko-Biała Główna - 18:26 Rybnik - Wrocław Główny
D FSSuO IR64140/64141 Wrocław Główny - 19:23 Kuźnia Raciborska - Bielsko-Biała

Rybnik – Sumina

[153] (ERA77A1, G6, H6) PL14/17

There are two routes between Rybnik and Sumina: a direct line and a longer route via Rybnik Towarowy and Rydułtowy. The direct line is used by trains with a '<' symbol against intermediate stations and by those in the preceding entry.

Kędzierzyn Koźle – Kędzierzyn Koźle Azoty (p.odg. Koźle)

[160] (ERA78A3 not shown, R14) PL14/18

There are two routes between Kędzierzyn Koźle and p.odg. Koźle. The easternmost track (line 709), comprising a 4 km single line flying over the curve to the Gliwice line and running via a staff halt at the PKP depot, is the normal passenger route. However, southbound services from Kędzierzyn Koźle platform IV to Rybnik and Racibórz must use a route (line 151) on the west side of the yard (where the north- and south-bound lines are up to 0.5 km apart). Based on the on line station departure sheets, the following trains should use this route.

R66407 10:02 Kędzierzyn-Koźle - Racibórz
R66423 17:02 Kędzierzyn-Koźle - Racibórz
D FSSuO IR64141 Wrocław Główny - 19:00 Kędzierzyn-Koźle - Bielsko Biała Główna

Orzesze Jaśkowice - Tychy

[169] (ERA77A1/B1 G7), PL14/19

This freight link south of Katowice saw a short-lived summer only service in 2011-12, reappeared for the summer of 2013 but has no trains in the 2014 timetable.

Lisów – Herby Stare

[175] (ERA78B4 not shown, F7) PL14/20

The east and westbound routes take significantly different routes through a forest between these points. Note that there are no services as at February 2014 owing to long term engineering work.

Herby Stare – Herby Nowe

[175, 315, 320, IC19] (ERA78B4, F7) PL14/21

Lubliniec – Paczyna

[180] (ERA78A3 Lubliniec not shown correctly, G6) PL14/22

Some expresses are booked to use a 36.503 km section of an otherwise freight only line. Note there is a grade separated junction at Lubliniec.

Dąbrowa Oleśnicka – Oleśnica Rataje – Oleśnica

[200, 321] (ERA77C4, F5) PL14/23

Most trains between Ostrów Wielkopolski and Wrocław Główny take the direct route via the north to west curve (Dąbrowa Oleśnicka – Oleśnica Rataje – Borowa Oleśnica (p.odg. Łukanów)) avoiding Oleśnica. However a few take this north-to-east curve into Oleśnica station.

Jarocin east side – Golina (– Krotoszyn)

[321] (ERA77C1, E5) PL14/25

Most trains between Jarocin and Krotoszyn use the west side of Jarocin station (platforms I and II), accessed via connecting line 826. Through trains between Poznań Głowny and Krotoszyn must run this way. The following trains use the east side of Jarocin station (platform III) and the connection southwards towards Golina, which runs on the opposite side of the marshalling yard and depot south of the station:

SSuX R79550 05:48 Jarocin - Krotoszyn
SSuO R79552 07:46 Jarocin - Krotoszyn

Łowicz Przedmieśie – p.odg. Arkadia – Bednary

[602, 606] (ERA75C1, E8) PL14/26

Some fast services between Łódź Kaliska and Warsaw may be routed via the reopened line 15 (Zgierz - Łowicz Główny) as far as Łowicz Przedmieście and then the direct connection via p.odg. Arkadia to join the Warsaw main line at Bednary. Whilst the direct connection is the preferred route, it is also possible to use the curve (Line 531) from Łowicz Przedmieśie to Łowicz Główny LG1, diverging there on to the Warsaw main line.

There are at least five train pairs over this route in the timetable period 9 March to 26 April and they may be identified in Table 602 by a '<' at Łowicz Główny and a '|' or timing at Łowicz Przedmieście. Note that these trains are not shown in table 601.

Chorzew Siemkowice – Herby Nowe

[315] (ERA78B4; F7) PL14/31

This 55 km north - south freight line is sometimes used by services during the summer and also the skiing season, although none is scheduled in the 2014 timetable period.

There is a significant flying junction at Herby Nowe with the line from Kepno; the southbound line from Chorzew Siemkowice diverges by at least 1 km from the northbound line before crossing the Kepno line.

Kępno (low level) – Domanin (p.odg. Hanulin)

[320] (ERA78A4 not shown correctly, F6) PL14/32

Kępno is a two level station. The Poznań - Ostrów - Kluczbork lines passes through the high level platforms whereas the Herby Nowe line runs at right angles into low level platforms. A 1.8 km north-to-east outside curve (Line 812) connects the line from the Ostrów direction with the west end of the low level platforms. This curve is used by through services to/from Ostrów via Wieluń Dabrowa and also by trains that start or terminate at Kępno from the Ostrów direction as there is no facility for trains to reverse at the high level platforms.

Jarocin – Września – Gniezno

[321] (ERA74C1,75A1; E5, D5) PL14/33

In previous years an overnight pilgrims' special has run from Częstochowa Osobowa to Bydgoszcz Główna over this line in August. However, the train does not appear in the 2014 timetable. This line has been proposed for reopening although there is no sign of this as at March 2014.

Sulechów – Czerwieńsk – Przylep

[334, 355] (ERA74B1 not shown, E2 partially shown) PL14/34

Almost all trains between Zielona Góra and Sulechów (- Zbąszynek) avoid Czerwieńsk by means of the south <=> east avoiding curve opened on 9 June 2013. The Sulechów line crosses underneath the Zielona Góra line to the east of the two-sided Czerwieńsk station. Through trains between Zielona Góra and Zbąszynek via Czerwieńsk reverse in the Sulechów (south side) platforms and use a significant connection to the Zielona Góra line at the east end of the station. Those listed are now the only services between Czerwieńsk station and the avoiding curve east junction and over the east end connection.

R70521/70520 Zbąszynek - 05:54 Sulechów - Zielona Góra
R78567/78566 15:22 Zielona Góra - Gorzów Wielkopolski

Piła - Piła Towarowa - podg Piła Północ

[340/365] (ERA74C3 not shown correctly, C4) PL14/35

The are two routes for tables 340 & 365 leaving the west end of Piła Głowny. The usual line 405 used by passenger trains veers to the south and then crosses the line towards Krzyż on a bridge. This, separate normally freight-only line 999 on the north side passes though the freight yard and takes a ground level direct route to Piła Północ, the junction for the Walcz and Szczecinek routes.

Only reachable to/from Piła's northerly platforms [4 and above] and used if another service is booked over the section from Piła Północ at the same time as both routes are single track. The first scheduled use was noticed in 2012 and this continued in 2013 and now up until nearly the end of April 2014. Verification of this route would be welcomed by the compilers.

D SuO R87430 Koszalin - 13:19 Stara Łubianka - Poznań Gł

Gorzów Wielkopolski

[343/345] (ERA74B2 not shown, D2) PL14/36

Each of the two lines uses separate portions of the station, connected only by subways. Any through trains to/from the Międzyrzecz line use a lengthy connection of over 1 km, west of the station. There have been no scheduled services since 2010 but there are occasional Turkol Charters.

Kostrzyn Towarowy – Kostrzyn station

[IC 11.2] (ERA74A2 not shown, R10) PL14/37

This north to west curve has been used as part of a diversionary route for trains (normally overnight services) between Berlin and Poznań when the cross-border line between Frankfurt (Oder) and Rzepin is blocked. The trains run via Küstrin-Kietz, reverse in Kostrzyn Towarowy yard and thence via Rzepin. Diversions used this line in 2013, but no use has yet been found in 2014.

Sczczecin avoiding line: Szczecin Dąbie Osiedle (SDC box) – (SDA box) - Szczecin Zdunowo

[360/370] (ERA74A3, R1) PL14/38

This north-to-east curve avoids Szczecin Dąbie and is taken by trains from the Stargard Szczeciński line going to Świnoujście not required to call at Szczecin Główny. The curve has been used by summer dated trains in previous years, but no trains appear to in 2014.

Szczecin Główny eastern approaches

[361] (ERA74A3, R1) PL14/39

There are two alternative routes from Szczecin Zdroje (p.odg. Regalica) to Szczecin Główny. The shorter northern route runs via Szczecin Port Centralny station into the northern end of Szczecin Główny, and the longer southern route via p.odg. Dziewoklicz and p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo into the southern end of Szczecin Główny. Most IC services and a few PR services take the southern route and may be identified by a '<' symbol against Szczecin Port Centralny.

Szczecin Główny western approaches

[368, 369] (ERA74A3 not shown correctly, R1) PL14/40

There are three possible routes from Szczecin Gumieńce to Szczecin Główny. From north to south these are: (a) a single track line via Szczecin Wzgórze Hetmańskie and Szczecin Pomorzany, (b) the single track direct line and (c) the double track southern loop via p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo - p.odg. Dziewoklicz - Szczecin Port Centralny. In the current timetable all trains are allowed 5 or 6 minutes for the journey. This is insufficient time to run via the southern loop so all probably use the direct line to/from Szczecin Główny.

Kołobrzeg Port

[off 375] (ERA74B4, B2) PL14/41

A normally freight-only branch which passes through the city streets. The annual Poznań Gł - Kołobrzeg "Pirat" steam excursion has resumed running to the Port rather than Kołobrzeg station, joined from 2012 by a separate Diesel hauled excursion "Katamaran". The 2014 dates are 31st May and 22rd June respectively with details on the Turkol website.

Poznań Franowo

[300/398/430] (ERA74C1, R10&D4) PL14/42

Poznań Franowo is a large marshalling yard and Depot on the south freight ring around Poznań. Owing to extensive engineering works on the main line there had been regular diversions since March 2007 but these ended in 2011. Since then the only likley use is by overnight trains to/from Szczecin to avoid stock reversal en route plus Charters organised by Turkol

There are two eastbound routes to reach T300 and T430, line 352 on the north side or a southside route from p.odg Pokrzywno, diverging near the locomotive depot so that those to/from T430 used a flyover towards p.odj Zieliniec, and those on T300 used line 806 outside this flyover [not shown on Ball or Quail maps] towards Swarzędz. The north side of Franowo Yard route runs via the platforms used by the staff trains prior to withdrawal in approx December 2006. Which route any eastbound service takes is not known but westbound services must travel line 352 on the north side of the yard.

[Poznań Głowny –] Poznań Starołęka – p.odg. Pokrzywno - Poznań Franowo – Poznań Swarzędz

[300/ex398/300] (ERA74C1, R10&D4) PL14/43

Travelling this way avoids a reversal in Poznań Gł.

Gutowo Wlkp. (p.odg. Sokołowo Wrzesińskie) – Podstolice (Pd box)

[300] (ERA75A1, D5) PL14/44

The east-to-west main line avoids Września station for those trains on table 300 shown non-stopping Września.

Rogoźno Wielkopolskie - Wągrowiec

[395] (ERA74C2, D4) PL14/45

A former freight-only line that reopened temporarily to passengers on 1/9/2011 when passenger trains on table 390 between Wągrowiec and Poznań Wschód were diverted from the direct route due to engineering works. Passenger use has ceased but some Turkol charters are scheduled to use this route during 2014.

Iława

[400/405/500] (ERA75B3 not shown correctly, B8) PL14/46

There are two routes between Iława station and Działdowo, the Malbork – Warszawa main line diving under the Toruń – Olsztyn line from the north side, plus Line 968, a curve from the yard and south side platform. Trackwork means trains to/from Działdowo booked at platform 3 cannot reach the diveunder line so these must use line 968.

There are no trains shown to use platform 3 arriving from Działdowo in the period to 26 April. However, no arrival platform is shown from 27 April for the equivalents of the trains shown below, which ran via this route in 2013. It is possible that these trains will use line 968 and the on-line or station departure board notices should be consulted.

2013 trains

SSuX R60233 Działdowo - 07:22 Smolniki - Iława Gł
SuX R60237 Działdowo - 17:07 Smolniki - Iława Gł

It should be noted that is possible for departures from any platform at Ilawa to use Line 968 but the regular non-conflicting route for Malbork - Iława - Działdowo services is the diveunder. Additionally all Olsztyn - Iława - Malbork services use connections at the Olsztyn end of the station to cross to the north side platforms.

Toruń Główny – Suchatówka (Nieszawka)

[405] (ERA75A2, R3) PL14/47

There are two routes: the more northerly climbs over the Bydgoszcz line, the alternative passes through Toruń Kluczyki station. Trains timed at Toruń Kluczyki must use the southerly route, but in practice other trains use either route.

Bydgoszcz Leśna – Maksymillianowo

[Ex 420/430] (ERA75A2 not shown correctly, R3&C6) PL14/48

This line avoids a reversal in Bydgoszcz Głowny by services running from Tczew - Torun. Has had recent booked use by odd overnights plus during 2012 by one daytime summer only southbound service but there was no use in 2013 and none is evident for 2014.

Tczew - Rokitki Tczewskie

[426] (ERA75B4 not shown, R2) PL14/49

There are alternative 2km routes approaching Tczew either at ground level or on a lengthy embankment over the goods yard access lines. Arrival routes cannot be confirmed as all platforms can be reached from the ground level line but departures from Platforms 1 & 2 must use the ground level route. There are no Departures to, or Arrivals from Chojnice scheduled to use Platforms 1 or 2 in the 2014 on-line Station sheets and through trains to and from Gdynia normally use the high level lines to reduce conflicting movements.

Gdynia Stocznia

[450/451 & 452] (ERA75B5 not shown, R2) PL14/50

The SKM local and main lines take separate routes with Gdynia Stocznia station on an elevated section flying over freight lines leading into the docks.

Gdynia Główny – Rumia

[450/451] (ERA75A5 not shown, R2) PL14/51

Some trains from Hel on table 450 in previous years have not crossed to the main lines at Rumia, but run via a separate line shown on Quail on the East side of Gdynia Chylonia EMU depot and run on the east side of the SKM local lines. Nearing Gdynia they used a connection down to join lines from the PKP locomotive depot, carriage sidings and docks and a dive-under to arrive at platforms on the west side of Gdynia Glówny. Part or all of this route may also apply to departing trains, but which if any are currently scheduled this way is not known.

Żuławskiej Kolei Dojazdowej

[457] (ERA75B4, A7 not shown correctly) PL14/52

This system worked by the Pomorskie Towarzystwo Miłośników Kolei Żelaznych (PTMKŻ) is a preserved ex PKP narrow gauge line from Nowy Dwor Gdanski to Sztutowo and Prawy Brzeg Wisły.

Stegna Gdanska

This is a triangular station with platforms on all three sides. In the 2013 Timetable it was possible to cover all sides with lengthy waits on one day's travel. See the PTMKŻ website. 2014 times are awaited.

Sztutowo

If travelling to/from Sztutowo on either a loco hauled train or a railcar towing trailers it will reverse around a triangle on either arrival at or departure from Sztutowo as there is no run round loop.

Suwałki

[537] (ERA75B4 not shown correctly, B12) PL14/53

The southbound working only of the daily service from Sestokai to Warsaw has in previous years continued into a 0.5km headshunt and reversed the coaches onto others already awaiting departure on another platform after a brief stop at Suwałki to drop arriving passengers. 2013 timings are arrive Suwałki around 15:30

Note that trains are not running between Suwałki and Sestokai as at spring 2014. It is presumed they will resume when the Rail Baltika engineering work is complete.

Wrzosów (p.odg. Stojadła) – p.odg. Kędzierak - Pilawa

[550/613] (ERA76A1, D10&E10) PL14/54

Part of a ring freight route round the east side of Warszawa, this north-to-south line provides a link between the Lublin and Terespol lines, and is used as the main route for fast trains between Warsawa Wschodnia and Pilawa as opposed to the single track line via Otwock due to capacity limitations. Trains were marked with a wavy line on table 550 at Otwock or cd/z 550 on table 613 but with no PDF's, a booked timing of 45 minutes between Warsawa Wschodnia and Pilawa should mean travelling this route.

Dęblin – Stawy

[553] (ERA79A5 partly shown, E11) PL14/55

There are two passenger routes from Stawy, which connect the Łuków line to the north and south ends of Dęblin station, forming a balloon loop. Only the line at the north end is shown in the Ball and Quail maps. It is thought that trains from Łuków arrive at Dęblin using the southern route, even if they are continuing south and need to reverse in order to do so, and those to Łuków use the northern route. This is supported by the fact that 3 Deblin to Lukow trains wait only 1 minute at Deblin whereas all Lukow to Deblin trains spend at least 6 minutes there. The compilers would greatly appreciate any definitive information on train routing.

Mokra (p.odg. Skieniewka) – Dąbrowice Skierniewickie (p.odg. Skierniewickie Park)

[102, 601] (ERA75C1, E8) PL14/56

This north west-to-south west chord avoiding Skierniewice station links the Łowicz line with the min line to Koluszki.

From 9 March to 25/26 April many eastbound IC services on line 300 (Łowicz to Warszawa) are diverted away from Warszawa Zachodnia, Centralna and Wschodnia and take instead this route to Warszawa Gdańska. The SSuX local service from Sochaczew which has ran over this route for several years does not appear in the timetable for 2014. Note also that services taking PL14/59 also use this route.

[601] (ERA76C51, R5, R7) PL14/58

This route was used extensively during construction of a road underpass at Warszawa Ursus in 2013. In the 2014 timetable the PDFs for table 601 imply that a number of westbound services use this route until 26 April, with limited use on various dates later in 2014. The indicators in the PDF are a call at Warszawa Zachodnia, together with '>' markers at stations between Warszawa Włochy and Piastów inclusive and a '|' marker at Pruszków. However, the markers are clearly wrong on some trains, so confirmation of this routing would be welcomed by the compilers.

  • (Hagenwerder [Germany] -) frontier - Ręcszyn - (- Krzewina Zgorzelecka -) Trzciniec Zgorzelecki - frontier (- Hirschfelde [Germany]) (36A2): DB table 220. The section between Ręcszyn and Trzciniec Zgorzelecki is traversed only by trains on DB table 220 (Zittau - Görlitz, presently operated by Connex/Lausitzbahn) as PKP trains on table 260 were withdrawn with the 2000/01 timetable.
  • (Zittau [Germany] -) frontier - frontier (- Hrádek nad Nisou [Czech Republic]) (36A2): ČD table 089. There are no stations in Poland on this line.
  • Głuchołazy - frontier (- Jindřichov ve Slezsku [Czech Republic]) (37A1): Through Krnov – Jesenik trains on ČD table 292 use PKP tracks in and out of Głuchołazy as there is no triangle here and the approximately 13km of PKP tracks east of Głuchołazy are only traversed by ČD services. From 10 December 2006 ČD services call to set down and pick up at Głuchołazy.
