Slovenia - Lines with Obscure or Sparse passenger services

Introduction

This list is based on the timetable in force from 13 December 2020 until 10 July 2021. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA-E" refer to the European Railway Atlas (All-Europe Edition) by M.G. Ball. References prefixed "ERA-R" refer to the European Railway Atlas (Regional Series - The Balkans) by M.G. Ball.

SŽ no longer publish a full paper timetable and the online pdfs do not use the same timetable numbers, instead numbering them 1 to 18. The on-line timetable numbers are therefore used in the entries below.

Introduction

This list is based on the timetable in force from 12 December 2021 until 4 September 2022. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information. Trains running only certain days of the week are shown using ISO 8601 weekday numbers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_week_date).

SŽ no longer publish a full paper timetable and the online pdfs do not use the same timetable numbers, instead lettering them with two to four letters from the first and last stations on the route. The on-line timetable letters are therefore used in the entries below.

Zidani Most avoiding line: Radeče (km 501) – Rimske Toplice (km 502.5)

A south-east to north-east curve avoiding Zidani Most.

Škofja Loka "avoiding line" (km 585.5 – km 586.8)

[Lj-Jes/Jes-Lj] (ERA-E 100A2, not shown ERA-R 215B3, not shown; 13A3) SI22/2

This line, from the south end of the station avoiding the platforms and taking a more direct course northwards, is normally used by trains not booked to call at this station (MV/EN/most ECs).

Maribor avoiding line: Maribor Tezno – Maribor Tabor

A south to west curve avoiding Maribor. There are no services in the current timetable.

Pragersko avoiding line: Rače – Šikole

[Prag-Sred/Sred-Prag] (ERA-E 100A3; ERA-R 216A3; 14D2) SI22/4

This north to east curve avoiding Pragersko station is used by trains between the Maribor and Ptuj lines if not calling at Pragersko. They may be identified in the Prag-Sred/Sred-Prag tables by times at Rače and Šikole and no times at Pragersko.

Other sparse services

The following lines have few trains (relative to service levels generally in this country) - fewer than four trains each way on at least three days a week. Note that the on-line Slovenian timetable pdfs no longer show the former timetable numbers, and their filenames include 2-4 letters of the first and last main Slovenian stations in the table.

Metlika - Rosalnice - Bubnjarci (Croatia) There is a limited SŽ service between Metlika and Rosalnice, and a limited cross-border HŽ service between Metlika and Bubnjarci (- Karlovac). The Karlovac trains do not call at Rosalnice.

Prevalje - Bleiburg (Austria)
Središče - Macinec (Croatia)
Mursko Središće (Croatia) - Lendava
Ormoz - Hodoš - Bajánsenye [MAV]

At weekends, most lines have a very restricted local service, or none at all. This particularly affects the following lines, which have few or no long-distance trains:

Maribor - Prevalje - Bleiburg (Austria)
Pragersko - Ormož - Središče / Hodoš
Grobelno - Stranje - Imeno / Sveti Rok ob Sotli - Ðurmanec (Croatia)
Celje - Velenje
Sežana - Nova Gorica
Grosuplje - Kočevje
