Introduction

This list is based on the timetable in force from 13 December 2015 until 10 December 2016, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

In the heading to each entry the map reference for the line in the Schweers+Wall Eisenbahn Atlas (2011 edition) is shown, in italic, in addition to the reference to M.G. Ball's European Railway Atlas.

Obscure services

Kyhna (Delitzsch Gbf) – Delitzsch unt Bf

[219] (42B3, 58B2) DE16/301

This west to north curve connects the Halle (Saale) – Eilenburg and Leipzig – Bitterfeld lines. It is used by IC and other long distance trains when the line between Halle and Bitterfeld is blocked by engineering work, although RB services are normally replaced by buses.

RB16371 Halle (Saale) Hbf – 22:56 Kyhna – Delitzsch unt Bf

Leipzig-Leutzsch – Wiederitzsch – Leipzig Hbf (Leipzig-Mockau)

[550, 580] (46A3-46B3, 131C3-131B3) DE16/302

This is a longer route between Leipzig-Leutzsch and Leipzig Hbf via the freight ring line.

CNL471 Ostseebad Binz/Berlin-Gesundbrunen - 23:59 Leipzig Hbf - Zürich HB

Leipzig-Leutzsch – Wiederitzsch – Rackwitz (Abzw Leipzig Messe Nord)

[550, 580] (46A3-46B3, 131C3-131B3) DE16/303

This route enables trains to run between the Erfurt and Berlin main lines without reversing at Leipzig Hbf

D3 EN452 Moskva Belorusskaja - 21:09 Berlin Hbf - Paris Est

D3: Not when departure from Paris is on 26 & 27 March, 21 & 22 May, 31 July and 19, 20, 26 & 27 November

Leipzig Hbf (tief) (Leipzig Berliner Straße) – Leipzig Messe (Leipzig Nordkopf)

[550, 580] (46A3-46B3, 131C3-131C2) DE16/303A

There are two routes available for S-Bahn trains between Leipzig Hbf (tief) and platforms 1 and 2 on the Bitterfeld line at Leipzig Messe. These are via Leipzig Nord on the Eilenburg lines (6396) or via the main line to Bitterfeld (6411). There are connections between Leipzig Nordkopf, on line 6411, and Leipzig Nord. The southbound connection, in particular, follows a separate alignment of its own. All S1 trains to and from Leipzig Messe run via and call at Leipzig Nord. S2 trains to and from Delitzsch or Bitterfeld use line 6411 northbound and line 6396 southbound.

Rackwitz (Abzw. Leipzig Messe Nord) – Leipzig-Mockau - Leipzig-Thekla - Leipzig-Schönefeld - Engelsdorf

(46B3, 131C3-131D3) DE16/304

This route enables trains to run between the Berlin and Dresden lines without having to reverse at Leipzig Hbf. There are no trains over this route in the current timetable. However, the section between Abzw. Leipzig Messe Nord and Leipzig-Mockau (line 6388) has been used by the following train, which may still run this way:

SuO IC1934 15:58 Leipzig Hbf - Emden

Oschatz – Glossen (b Oschatz) (Döllnitzbahn GmbH)

(43A2 not shown in full, 59B3) DE16/305

The Döllnitzbahn operates a limited service over this 750mm gauge line. Steam trains operate to Glossen occasionally. The only regular trains over the full length of the line are:

SSuX DBG104 13:11 Oschatz Hbf – Glossen (b Oschatz)
SSuX DBG107 14:15 Glossen (b Oschatz) – Oschatz Hbf

There is currently no service to Kemmlitz (b Oschatz). For further information see www.doellnitzbahn.de.

Zabeltitz (Großenhain Berliner Bf W16) or Weißig (Abzw Leckwitz) – Abzw Kottewitz – Radebeul Abzw Az – Radebeul Naundorf or Radebeul-West

[240, 500] (44B2 to 45A1 partially shown, 59D3-59D4) DE16/306

This is the more easterly (not via Priestewitz) of the two parallel routes between the Großenhain area and the neighbourhood of Coswig, north west of Dresden. It consists of a section of the Berlin - Dresden main line and connections at its northern end towards Elsterwerda and Berlin or Riesa and Leipzig and at its southern end towards Dresden via Cossebaude or via Radebeul West.

The four possible routes as used as follows:

Elsterwerda via Cossebaude: Most EC/IC services between Berlin and Dresden Hbf which are not scheduled to call at Dresden-Neustadt.

Elsterwerda via Radebeul West: EC/IC services between Berlin and Dresden Hbf which are scheduled to call at Dresden-Neustadt.

Riesa via Cossebaude: IC and ICE trains between Leipzig and Dresden which are not scheduled to call at Radebeul-Ost or Dresden-Neustadt.

Riesa via Radebeul West: IC and ICE trains between Leipzig and Dresden which are scheduled to call at Radebeul-Ost or Dresden-Neustadt.

RB and RE services do not use this route and, instead, run via Priestewitz. IC/ICE trains from Leipzig may also run via Priestewitz.

Dresden Hbf (south side high level) – Dresden-Plauen (Dresden-Altstadt) (via goods spur)

[510, 510.3] (45B1 not shown, 73A3) DE16/307

Trains to and from the Chemnitz line normally use the middle (low level) or north side (high level) platforms at Dresden Hbf. This spur provides access to the south side (high level) platforms 1 to 5.

Dresden-Plauen (Abzw Freital Ost) - Tharandt

[510, 510.3] (44A2 not shown, 72D4-72C4) DE16/308

A single-track goods line runs to the north of the main line, and at lower level, between Freital Ost and Tharandt. At Freital-Hainsberg it is on the far side of the narrow-gauge station and yard from the main line. It may be used by trains with no station stops between Dresden Hbf and Tharandt, particularly westbound. Trains scheduled non-stop between Dresden Hbf and Tharandt which overtake an S-Bahn service can be expected to use this route. These depart Dresden Hbf at 05:53 (MRB26964'), 06:53 (MRB26966), 14:53 (MRB16982), 15:53 (MRB26984) and 16:53 (MRB26986). The S-Bahn services being overtaken do not run at weekends, so these trains may run via the main line then.

It is possible that other services may use this route and the compilers would welcome information on these.

Werdau (Werdau Bogendreieck, Werdauer Spitz) – Neumark (Sachsen) (Werdau Bogendreieck, Neumarker Spitz)

[VL2] (42B1, 132A4) DE16/309

This north to south side of the Werdau triangle is part of the main line from Leipzig to München via Hof, but most trains now run to and from Zwickau. This side of the triangle is used by Vogtlandbahn trains which run non-stop between Werdau and Reichenbach (Vogtl) every two hours.

Falkenberg (Elster) – Glaubitz (b Riesa) (Abzw. Zeithain Bogendreieck)

[240] (43B3, 59C1-59C3) DE16/310

See DE16/287

Arnsdorf (b Dresden) – Kleinröhrsdorf (Abzw Arnsdorf Nord)

[227] (44A2, 60B4) DE16/311

Most trains between Dresden and Kamenz use the west to north connecting curve west of Arnsdorf. Trains calling at Arnsdorf reverse there and use the east to north curve. These are departures from Arnsdorf at 03:05 1 January only (SBS74591), 05:18 SSuX or 05:30 SSuX (SBS74551) and 23:35 (SBS74587) and from Kamenz at 03:39 SSuX or 03:45 SSuX (SBS74550) and 04:50 SuX (SBS74552).
