Trains between Riesa and the lines to the west, which need to access the middle platforms (11, 14 and 15) at Leipzig Hbf to reverse, use this link between the Riesa and Altenburg lines to avoid conflicting movements.  All trains between Dresden and the Erfurt or Magdeburg lines use this route. These are principally ''IC'' and ''ICE'' trains to and from Dresden.

Introduction

This list is based on the timetable in force until until 14 December 2013, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

In the heading to each entry the map reference for the line in the Schweers+Wall Eisenbahn Atlas (2007/2008 edition) is shown, in italic, in addition to the reference to M.G. Ball's European Railway Atlas.

Obscure services

Kyhna (Delitzsch Gbf) – Delitzsch unt Bf

[219] (42B3, 58B2) DE14/301

This west to north curve connects the Halle (Saale) – Eilenburg and Leipzig – Bitterfeld lines. It is used by IC and other long distance trains when the line between Halle and Bitterfeld is blocked by engineering work, although RB services are normally replaced by buses. Only two local services use the curve in the current timetable.

MRB74720(SX)/RB26329(SO) Halle (Saale) Hbf – 22:59 Kyhna – Delitzsch unt Bf
SSuX RB26310 04:10 Delitzsch unt Bf – Naumburg (Saale) Hbf

Kyhna (Delitzsch Gbf) – Zschortau (Delitzsch Abzw Ah)

[504] (42B3, 58B2) DE14/302

This west to south curve connects the Halle (Saale) – Eilenburg and Leipzig – Bitterfeld lines. It is used by the following trains in order to avoid reversal at Halle (Saale) Hbf.

FSX IC2255 Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof - 22:09 Halle (Saale) Hbf – Leipzig Hbf

Halle Hbf (Gröbers Bbf) – Gröbers Süd and Schkeuditz – Leipzig-Wahren via third line (6387) and Leipzig-Wahren – Wiederitzsch – Rackwitz (Abzw. Leipzig Messe Nord)

[251] (46A3-46B3 partly shown, 130D2-131C2) DE13/303

During the first half of 2013, until the reinstatement of the direct line between Bitterfeld and Halle Hbf (the precise date is not yet known), services on line RB80 (Halle - Lutherstadt Wittenberg) take a circular route from Wittenberg via Bitterfeld - Delitzsch Gbf - Halle Hbf - Wiederitzsch - Bitterfeld and back to Wittenberg.

Anticlockwise, departures from Halle Hbf every two hours from 07:06 to 19:06, plus:

SSuX RB26282 05:37 Halle Hbf - Magdeburg Hbf (see note below)
SSuX RB26296 14:38 Halle Hbf - Magdeburg Hbf (see note below)
SSuX RB26300 16:38 Halle Hbf - Magdeburg Hbf (see note below)
SSuX RB26242 17:41 Halle Hbf - Bitterfeld

Note: RB26282, RB26296 and RB26300 are the only trains booked to use Line 6387. Whether they actually do so will depend on the freight traffic running at that time.

Clockwise, the only train booked by this route is:

SSuX RB26225 Lutherstadt Wittenberg - 06:45 Bitterfeld - Halle Hbf

Leipzig-Leutzsch – Leipzig Hbf (Leipzig-Mockau) (via Wiederitzsch)

[550, 580] (46A3-46B3, 131C3-131B3) DE14/304

Use of this line ended with the opening of the Leipzig City Tunnel in December 2013. There are no services in the current timetable.

Oschatz – Glossen (b Oschatz) (Döllnitzbahn GmbH)

(43A2, 59B3) DE14/308

The Döllnitzbahn operates a limited service over this 750mm gauge line, which is not shown in the Kursbuch. Steam trains operate to Glossen occasionally, but the only regular trains over the full length of the line are:

SSuX DBG104 13:11 Oschatz Hbf – Glossen (b Oschatz)
SSuX DBG107 14:15 Glossen (b Oschatz) – Oschatz Hbf

There is currently no service to Kemmlitz (b Oschatz). For further information see www.doellnitzbahn.de.

Zabeltitz (Großenhain Berliner Bf W16) [A] or Weißig (Abzw Leckwitz) [B] – Abzw Kottewitz – Radebeul Abzw Az – Radebeul Naundorf [C] or Radebeul-West [D]

[240] (44B3 to 45A1 partially shown, 59D3-59D4) DE14/309

This is the more easterly (not via Priestewitz) of the two parallel routes between the Großenhain area and the neighbourhood of Coswig, NW of Dresden. It consists of a section of the Berlin - Dresden main line and connections at its northern end towards Berlin [A] or Leipzig [B] and at its southern end towards Dresden via Cossebaude [C] or via Radebeul Ost [D]. See the title above for the locations referenced by the letters [A] - [D].

The four possible routes as used as follows:

[A] - [C]: EC/IC services between Berlin and Dresden Hbf which are not scheduled to call at Dresden-Neustadt. Note that RB services run via Grossenhain Cottbusser Bf and Priestewitz. Usage of the route via Radebeul-Naundorf will decrease in coming years, especially after autumn 2013.

[A] - [D]: the small number of EC/IC services between Berlin and Dresden Hbf which are scheduled to call at Dresden-Neustadt.

[B] - [C]: IC and ICE trains between Leipzig and Dresden which are not scheduled to call at Radebeul-Ost or Dresden-Neustadt. Note that RE services run via Priestewitz.

[B] - [D]: IC and ICE trains between Leipzig and Dresden which are scheduled to call at Radebeul-Ost or Dresden-Neustadt. Note that RE services run via Priestewitz.

Note: Former entries DE13/310 - DE13/312 have been incorporated into this one.

Radebeul Ost (Abzw. Dresden-Pieschen) – Dresden-Neustadt W 707

[241, 245, 500] (45B1, 73A3) DE14/313

The engineering works that led to use of this diversionary route ended in the autumn of 2013. There are no services using this line in the current timetable.

Dresden Hbf (south side high level) – Dresden-Plauen (Dresden-Altstadt) (via goods spur)

[510, 510.3] (45B1, 73A3) DE14/314

Trains to and from the Chemnitz line normally use the middle (low level) or north side (high level) platforms at Dresden Hbf. This spur provides access to the south side (high level) platforms 1 to 5.

Dresden-Plauen (Abzw Freital Ost) - Tharandt

[510] (44A2 not shown, 72D4) DE14/315

A single-track goods line runs to the north of the main line, and at lower level, between Freital Ost and Tharandt. At Freital-Hainsberg it is on the far side of the narrow-gauge station and yard from the main line. It may be used by trains with no station stops between Dresden Hbf and Tharandt, particularly westbound.

Werdau (Werdau Bogendreieck, Werdauer Spitz) – Neumark (Sachsen) (Werdau Bogendreieck, Neumarker Spitz)

[530] (42B1, 132A4) DE14/316

This north to south side of the Werdau triangle is part of the main line from Leipzig to München via Hof, but most trains now run to and from Zwickau. This side of the triangle is used by Vogtlandbahn trains which run non-stop between Werdau and Reichenbach (Vogtl) every two hours.

Falkenberg (Elster) – Glaubitz (b Riesa) (Abzw. Zeithain Bogendreieck)

[240] (43B3, 59C1-59C3) DE14/317

See DE14/275

Arnsdorf (b Dresden) – Kleinröhrsdorf (Abzw Arnsdorf Nord)

[227] (44A2, 60B4) DE14/318

Most trains between Dresden and Kamenz use the west-to-north connecting curve west of Arnsdorf (and so don't call at Arnsdorf), except:

SSuX SBS74551 Dresden Hbf – 05:29 Arnsdorf – Kamenz
SBS74587 Dresden Hbf – 23:37 Arnsdorf – Kamenz
SSuX SBS74550 Kamenz – 03:49 Kleinröhrsdorf – Dresden Hbf
